that magnum is was mechanicly & bodywork sound, very well looked after & davisons had 2 identical ones. from a fitters point of view ther very easy to work on, no less reliable than any other volvo/renault, good cab space etc only thing to watch is cab airbags can pop off seals. from a drivers point ov view, very comfortable & unbeatable night out comfort.
harry it will be euro 5, & i can vouch for this truck, also if your after any pics of it i can sharp call & get some tomoro if its in the yard? but bein as he has stated it will come with 12months mot & 12 months rpc its a winner . john davison is the owner but not to be confused with the john davidson the owner of katem & what used to be john dee.

Thanks, I’m certainly hoping to take a look at it next week when it’s in the London area, it is closer to anything I’ve seen so far to what I’m looking for so I’ll keep everybody informed. I have spoken to the owner and he does seem to be totally on the level.
Today’s letter from VOSA said this.
So I’m definitely in the position to make a move now. It seems to have taken ages, but I’m nearly there!
I won’t go into too much detail here, as I’m sure you’ll understand, but 44 tonne loads from the LEZ.
I’m not entirely sure that I shouldn’t get a Premium rather than a Magnum, people say the fuel consumption is better, but then I also think that if I am going to be living in it for the next few years then it has to be what I want rather than just a straightforward business decision.

‘‘Taken ages’’!!! Mine went in in December and eventualy had a date for the PI later this month and they have written and cancelled it due to ‘unforseen circumstances’
i see were your coming from too, the premiums are again spot on, volvo running gear & renault electronics & cab, i quiet like the newer premium cab, the top bunk is comfy & the shelf in passenger side instead of a locker is ideal to mount a flatscreen tv.
howerver if i were going to be away 90% of the week & i was buying the truck then id sure be looking at my own comfort, depends on the mpg’s of both to what id go for as even half a mpg over the course of the year is quiet a considerable amount of money. on plus side ive spoken to plenty of drivers with the renault auto box prefer it to volvos i shift.

Sympathies, it is the slowest process imaginable to go through, and yours is even slower.
It’s the same as any government department, they won’t even read a letter until it has sat in the in-tray for a month. It’s like buying a house, in the era of electronic communication they could do the searches in ten minutes but they still insist on taking eight weeks to do them, because that’s what they’ve always done and they aren’t prepared to change.

Thanks Harry. That Renault truck looks good, much loved i reckon.
the premium will get better fuel economy than the magnum, partly due to the aerodynamics of the cab
in my opinion, you will have about as much storage space in the premium as you would in the magnum, and neither of them are particularly good in that respect
the new version magnum is better internally than the older version (as pictured by truckers boy) and has more storage
for every person that says he is getting 8+ mpg from his, i could give names of people getting 6+ if they are lucky
just the same with reliability, there will be just as many people with good ones as there is with bad ones
this is the same with just about any truck on the market these days, there are good ones and bad ones, even the mighty scania, although, some on here would like you to believe otherwise
I am going to have a look at the Magnum, not least because I have half an eye towards picking up exhibition and roadshow work where a higher profile vehicle does tend to stand out and attract its own work. I do appreciate that a Magnum won’t give quite such good fuel consumption but would be prepared to take that on board.
Still haven’t taken a final decision yet but will do over the next week.
yep i do own a scania that’s now 2 1/2 yrs old that’s just spent a week in their workshop
the mpg is excellent so are the michelin tryes but don’t get me started on the build quality or scania’s
attitude towards their product
currently sorting a new unit but struggling to find a salesman that knows anything about their product.
i won’t name the manufacture but their sales DIRECTOR for london did’nt know what a fifth wheel was
when i pointed out that it was missing from the qoute

One of the most unique and eye catching trucks until the new Actros came along. Stepdad used to drive one for Pollocks, said it was nice enough but the cab felt cramped for a week away.
dew , I would advise your stepdad to loose some weight .
had an 04 4x2 from new, ran to italy with 21 ton all the time, no problems, then on a short spell with a 55 plate ex owner driver motor, only problem was so called up market radio was fitted which disconected the steering column switches and it turned its self off with ign so had to search for a station every time it was started, and it kept blowing fuzes, but for different items. then on to a 6x2 57 plate, yet another fine vehicle. then on a 6x2 59 high cab, loved it loved it loved it loads of storage and just a nice place to work, like many of us i had a plan that did not work out and had a gap year so (with many thanks to my employer) i am back in the saddle of the 54 over 770000kms now and still a good truck to drive. also i have a recurring hip problem which is fine in the magnum but gives problems in the more coventional cab step arrangements because of the twist and turn whilst lowering all of my weight on one leg (does not matter which leg), for me it would be a magnum every time,
I honestly dont know why a new owner driver wouldn’t look at a premium…
You can get a Euro 5 Premium for well under 20k on an 08 with a Volvo 460 and I-shift, a reasonable high roof cab with twin bunks, and a nive looking rig.
I guess we all want a new Scanny/Globetrotter but get real guys, apart from a TGA show me a better LEZ motor than a Premium.

Thats where my smart money would go!!!
I am in the process of renewing my vehicle, I had a look at the premium but I didn’t like the interior space, I am away all week so need plenty of lockers and room whilst being well priced. I have ended up going for another new stralis, it’s got loads of room, over the years I have had one it’s never let me down, the local dealer is excellent and above all it is very pocket friendly!

In my view the Stralis is a perfectly good truck and I’d happily buy another.
I wouldn’t for quarry work or similar and I think the interior is going to suffer if it has a lot of different drivers but out of those circumstances it’s fine.
It comes with a lot of stuff like electric blind, fridge/freezer as standard.
It does seem to throw out a lot of spurious bulb warnings but I always found there actually would be one out somewhere if you looked hard enough for it - often the catwalk light. Also the rattly squeaks in the interior can be overcome by using threadlocker when you tighten everything back up after it’s shaken itself loose for the first time and you don’t get any more problems with it after that.
