Seat belt for me every time, saved my life.

the maoster:
I am trying, but it just feels “odd”.

It does, at first. The most annoying thing, especially if like me you drive an FM Volvo, is being restricted when looking round the blind spot caused by the nearside mirror.

Yes, before anyone says anything, I know it shouldn’t be an issue but I tend to be driving on country lanes as much as motorways.

Can’t remember the name of the programme, one of those “follow the medics” type, but remember seeing the result of an accident and in the event the driver (car) died. Had the seat belt on but such was the force of the stop his internal organs broke ribs which then punctured major blood vessels. Was dead at the scene, just as he would have been without wearing his belt.

Seat belt will not always save your life they DO improve your chances should you be involved in an accident.

Either way is right depending on circumstances. Had one driver on Berwick to Duns road flipped and crashed onto stone wall. He came to pinned up against rear of cab roof with the steering wheel. His seat was shattered as he would have been if hed been strapped in it. Had another driver blown over, cab landed on top of crash barrier then proceeded to slide downhill along it. Driver was hanging onto steering wheel while his feet were running on the barrier through the broken window till it came up against a lamp post. Obviously if hed had seatbelt on it would probably have saved him the hassle but then you never know. If the belt had given way as he hung there he`d have probably gone head first onto barrier…ouch!!!
