A couple of weeks ago I started work at 1630h on Sunday afternoon after a 45h Weekly Rest.
I finished work at 2350h on Sunday night and resumed work at 09h Monday morning. I then worked on until 20h Monday evening when I started my 11 hour daily rest period.
Is the rest period that started on Sunday night actually a daily rest period?
If it is (like I think it is) does the reduced daily rest period I have used count from the previous week or the current week?

You must take a new weekly rest at the end of six 24 hour periods after your last weekly rest

Yes, it’s a reduced daily rest period of 9 hours 10 minutes.

You’re allowed to have 3 reduced daily rest periods between two consecutive weekly rest periods and they don’t need compensating for, so it makes no difference which week you want to count it for

It’s just that I have a very annoying colleague who still maintains the Maximum is ten hours in twenty four. I can’t find a paragraph in the regs that proves him wrong.
The closest I have found is that “A daily driving period ENDS with a daily rest period” that gave me a ■■■■■ in his armour but I don’t think it’s definitive enough.
Under EU rules what is the maximum amount of driving hours a driver may do in a twenty four hour period?

As Wheel Nut said it’s not written in the regulations how many driving hours you can do in 24 hours, but if you calculate that you can legally do 10 hours driving in a working day, that 10 hours driving would require you to have at least 1.5 hours break, then add a reduced daily rest of 9 hours which would leave 3.5 hours in the next shift.
So I agree again with Wheel Nut that the theoretical maximum driving time in 24 hours would be 13.5 hours.
Can’t really imagine it happening often though

Try these two articles, seems definitive enough to me
(k) ‘daily driving time’ means the total accumulated driving
time between the end of one daily rest period and the
beginning of the following daily rest period or between a
daily rest period and a weekly rest period;
Article 6
The daily driving time shall not exceed nine hours.
However, the daily driving time may be extended to at most
10 hours not more than twice during the week.

‘driving period’ means the accumulated driving time
from when a driver commences driving following a rest
period or a break until he takes a rest period or a break.
The driving period may be continuous or broken.
The rules only say what is possible, so providing you have had a daily rest period of 11 hours or a reduced rest period of 9hours, you can immediately start driving again.
You must start a daily rest period within 24 hours of the last one, that includes all rest driving, poa and other work as well as breaks.
What your annoying acquaintance is saying is that on a long drive to Spain where you can drive 4h, break for 45m, drive 3h, break for 45m and drive 3h you must then have 12.5 hours daily rest

John and I both used the ‘Long distance trip to Spain’ argument. We were both dismissed as foolish old duffers who had been driving lorries too long and simply not familiar with the latest version of the Regs.
This chap and some of the more immature drivers at our place have tried to use this ‘domestic regs’ rule to generate more nights out. If they would rather be away from home when they could reasonably come back it’s up to them.
I just get weary when they bleat that they ‘deserve’ to finish early on Friday because they are rough, tough truckers who have had four nights in a Truck bigger than my first flat.

You’re welcome. Remind this ■■■■ that he has to read all the rules, including the definitions at the beginning, which is something he clearly hasn’t done otherwise he would know what daily driving limit means.
