Red Light Cameras...

it is after the stop line by about 10"

Hmmm… that could be to give a little leeway for those who stop a little too far or could catch those who did make it across before it turned red… it would also depend if there was a slight time delay in it’s activation after the light goes to red…

so many possibilities… needing answers

It activates as soon as the red light comes on, if you cross it then goodbye £60 hello 3 points, simples. unless the 2 photos show that you were not moving then you might get away with it.

But what happens in the case of the driver crossing the stop line on green and then the light go’s to red before the vehicle has cleared the junction?.

I think they will let him off with it.
If he had jumped a red light the front axle would of set the camera off so there would be 2 pictures of the front part of the lorry, as he had already crossed the line with the unit the trailer axle would of set the camera off showing the rear part of the lorry, this would prove that he didnt cross on a red.

going slightly off topic
in poole going towards the ferry the traffic lights there have got a red light camera AND a speed camera built in to 1 unit
the road goes from 50mph to 30 mph just before the lights

Afternoon guys.

Driving in my Class 1 I went through a bloody red light cam on amber (in my opinion I wouldn’t have stopped in time). I know you could say I should have anticipated the amber light but in truth its hard to judge (especially since I did not see the last time it changed).

I went through less than 30 mph and it hit red probably half way down my trailer, but whats the crack? Is there leeway for us big uns? In a car i’m completely through easily, in somethin 55ft long, well you could in theory go through on green it catch the back of you on red?!

Bricking it now, I’m already on 6pts.

Any advice would be highly appreciated, as I’m gonna have to go court if this comes back.

If you had stopped over the stop line and activated the camera you would be in the clear, as both photos would have shown a stationary vehicle this happened to me on the A470 coryton interchange in Cardiff, a spotty yoof in an aldi TT late at night put the lights red in my direction at 1am, I had already been diverted of the M4 and was in no mood for hold ups i had the old should i shan’t i moment and stopped over the line triggering the camera. Talking to a friend of mine a few days later who is a taxi driver told me this had happened to him a number of times especially in busy traffic where he had stopped to avoid blocking the junction and had triggered the camera and he had never been prosecuted, so even if you can’t stop you must there is a delay of about 2 seconds when the light turns red before the camera will activate so even if you activate the camera you should be o.k if you are stationary, if you keep going then you are stuffed. I always stop now, they don,t have to paint them yellow like the scameras which makes them hard to see and to be honest i’d rather watch the road than look for cameras, the time you loose by stopping is minuscule when compared to 3 points and the fine. Obviously if you are way over the line when you stop then expect to be prosecuted and this would vary probably region to region and depending who makes the decision on the day if there are guidelines out there regarding this issue could someone please post them.

Hi, thanks for the input. That was my split second decision… I’m gonna block the junction. I guess its flip a coin, and hope .

I,m no lawyer but I am fairly certain that a NIP has to be served within 14 days of the offense, I got caught on this one last year, I got flashed on my bike doing 57 in a thirty and received my NIP 8 weeks after the offense I didn’t take legal advice and represented myself thinking i would get 6 points and a fine, I got banned for 28 days and found out about the 14 day rule after the event gutted was not the word i used!!!

You will not hear anything about it, you did not go through a red light happened to me about 5/6 times mainly in London and I get the impression there is a bit of leeway.
