Newmercman, he might be a millionaire & FTTM, have you seen why Claresholm is so reasonably priced ? & not exactly near a vibrant city or mountains, though I do think it has a pond in the summer.

.
Fernie is only a short drive , not to shabby for skiing iirc

I think Fernie is about 2 hrs drive from there, but he’s still missing the ''close to a vibrant city." bit.

Less than that if you go out the back way through Turner valley, still get half a day in one of the best resorts on offer, have previously driven there from Regina to ski . Lethbridge is a good city just a short drive South , but if the crap of a big city calls then it’s hardly much of a jaunt to Calgary ,by Canadian standards .
Vibrant cities and Western Canada are opposite poles , and with luck it’ll stay that way…

Think you’re getting Turner Valley mixed up with somewhere else, that is just west of Okotoks, 70mile NW of Claresholm, Fernie’s 120 mile SW.
Fernie only has one resort whereas if you go to the Banff/Lake Louise area there are 4 or 5 to choose from and some beautiful lakes near Canmore & Banff.
Yeah I like Lethbridge, got everything there I ever needed but you know women, I still don’t think it’ll hit the spot of a vibrant city.

You’re being pedantic Neil , Turner Valley is/was known as the back road from Okotoks to highway 3 .

Sorry about that, I thought you meant from Claresholm to Fernie. But if I could just use my pedanticism  just one more time, if you was going from Okotoks to Hwy3, you would turn left at Black Diamond, not Turner Valley and Hwy22 goes down to the 3.
Incidentally if you missed the left turn in Black Diamond, 50yrds ahead on the left is Marv’s classic soda shop, where the setting is in the 50’s and if you order an Elvis Burger, Marv breaks out the guitar and sings an Elvis song, just brilliant.
To me, it’s the little things like this that make coming to Canada worthwhile.
I’ll STFU now.

Marvs is now on the list for dinner:)

Well worth a visit, video it for novelty value and the food’s good.
While you are down that way, just south of Black Diamond on Hwy22 is the Bar-U-Ranch, a visitor friendly working ranch (google it).

Black Diamond , what a town ,home of Alison McRae for a while until Colin showed up and dragged her back to sweaty land .
What’s the name of the next town heading South ? Every time through there Beaufort T Justice was sat there with his speed gun waiting to snag over speeds down the hill .

Longview.

There is apparently an imminent recruitment drive in Regina but there is new blood running the show now and the cushy number that certain drivers have had till now could be about to come to an abrupt halt (speculation on my part). Personally i dont expect things to impact on myself too much except for maybe a few more weekend shifts being worked but with the added bonus of more hours = more dollars.

Purely for information purposes for people currently researching potential opportunities here, since mid April 2013 to the end of the year i made $ 63000 , i`m sure the guys who have been here longer than myself and have more experience of other companies in the area will be able to advise as to whether there are better opportunities in the area but as its already been stated - PR is the goal !!!

Rentals in Regina are ridiculously expensive if you want to live in a decent part of the city, we have now moved out of the city and are saving over $1000 a month on what we were paying out previously.

That is a good wage for only 8 1/2 months on a work permit, you certainly couldn’t do better than that over this way.

Yes mate still doing Alberta work with the odd Virden and store delivery thrown in, would kill for a regular run out time though, being home most nights is fantastic if you know when you need to be back the following day but we have to wait for a text at lunchtime for our start times. This can be as early as 1500 or as late as midnight/0100 so you’re never really knowing when to sleep - body clock is well and truly knackered lol
