Is this the same company that are now known as febland group and sell chairs etc.
Yep
I was interested to know as i delivered there last week and the old warehouse looked like the one in the pics.
Did they run that side of the company at the same time as well .Is that the type of stuff you would bring back to the uk? and why did they close the transport side?
Cheers Aidey

Aidey, Feblands were one of the pioneers in overland road transport to and from Italy. During the lates sixties/early seventies, Feblands were unhappy with transit times and damages caused at the docks and by manual handling, so started a road service.
Yes, Febland Europa did bring in a lot of goods, fruniture, pocellain and capodimonte for it’s sister companies. Febland Europa was a leader in the field of groupage for many years, having the advantage of a depot and inland clearence facility at Novara in Italy, meaning in the days before the EU, drivers did not have to sit at the Italian customs for days on end, instead any uncleared goods could be off-loaded and put into bonded store at Novara, allowing the rest of the load and the driver to continue. They also had a depot at Folkestone which not only meant that all customs documentaion could be prepared inhouse, but also ideal for handling groupage collected or delivered around the home counties.
Another advantage of being based in Novara was having a railhead and Novatrans facility nearby. You will have noticed in many of the piccies posted that probably half of the trailer fleet were Kangaroo trailers, meaning once dropped at one of the Cinque ports they would continue their journey to Novara unaccompanied, by sea and rail. Between road and rail there were usually about 800 round trips to Italy a year, which my seem a drop in the ocean, however, the fleet only consisted of about 15 units and drivers and 30odd trailers at any time. Not a big company by any means, which goes to show the dedication and hard work put in by the drivers and staff.
Febland Europa, to the best of my failing recollection ceased trading in the summer of 1986, for a number of reasons. Febland Group is still a very succesful business today, being run by the Febland family.

Thanks for that info. Sounds like another good one bit the dust along with numrerous others.
They certainly look succsessful in what they do now.

Just rooting through some old mags, came across this advert from October 1978
Found some piccies I took 7 years later, probably the battering of being thrown on and off trains and ferries unaccompanied and standing on docks being subjected o salt air, has taken its toll!!
Most of the Trailor Kangaroos were uprated with 14 ton necks and side guards to allow them to run at 38 tons post '83.
Found this picture on EBay bought it from PM Photography. This was Gary Richardson leaving Dover with a Febland box van in a 142 just purchased from Atkins International at Derby

Great picture Wayne, the trailer was AF35, how sad is that after 24 years. There are thousands of photos appearing, all taken at the bottom Jubilee Way, makes you wonder how the trucks used to get past the ‘happy snappers’, I honestly don’t remember seeing any back in the eighties. They probably sat in hides making out to be road workers, inlike the spotters of the green and white ones.
Scania 141
Slightly off topic, sorry, any of you local guys going to Flookburgh rally this w/end?
I’m thinking of going Sunday. Not been for some years.
Do any of you Febland people remember a sub contractor called Ronnie ‘the rat’ Simcox ? He used to run trailers from Folkestone to Novara I seem to recall in an old Merc. ?

I don’t recall him as a subbie, but Ron did drive for Febalnds whilst I was there, he always looked like he had got out from under the cab than out of it, but he kept the motors immaculate.
T.B
The reason I asked about Ron was because he used to talk about his adventures when he worked for me doing rd trips to Italy, and I couldn’t remember who it was he worked for until I stumbled upon this website and registered the other day.
Ronnie died around 1992,he always had a problem with his stomach and used to put it down to an ulcer which he would get sorted at some stage, but the problem turned out be be an aneurism which burst whilst he was homeward bound in France.Despite being I imagine in considerable pain,Ron drove his rig back to the UK and was taken to Canterbury hospital where he died shortly afterwards. He and I had parted company the previous year due to lack of work but he had my phone no in his diary and I was contacted by the hosp admin to see if I would accept responsibility for him as he had no kin,and no one else they contacted wished to do so.
God save me from such a fate,I was glad to help Ronnie out, despite his somewhat unusual appearance,he was good company and a bloody excellent and trustworthy driver . After all this time RIP and god bless.
Hi I also remember Febland Europa & Tony Febland he used to have a contract via Jameson i think & Italmondo of concorezzo in Italy I think he was the sole importer transporter of the "Capo de Monte stuff in mid 70’s can anyone remember him for this…■■?
