Being a warehouse monkey myself, generally it is either how it has come in from an outside source, or it is the picker in the warehouse that is too flipping lazy to invert the pallet onto the correct one. Generally it is the latter. At our place would would never expect a driver to do something like that, if he helps of his own accord then obviously it is appreciated but not expected.

But why is the stock on the wrong pallets ? Is it your company’s fault ? If so you are representing them so maybe you should roll your sleeves up and muck in, hard I know but crap happens. How is stock on the wrong pallets the hauliers fault? Surely it is the fault of the supplierUnless the goods have been damaged in transit then any problems are between the supplier and RDC nothing to do with the haulier
It sure aint the fault of the purchaser either so why should they restack the pallets? If your name is Mr Aldi and you order 26 pallets of (choose your own product) and ask that it be delivered on blue chep pallets, the supplier doesn’t and uses white, the haulier knows nothing of the contract between customer and supplier and turns up with goods on whites, so why should Mr aldi do it? He asked for blue in the first place.

Fair point, reject the load then and I’ll take it back…no way is it the hauliers problem either.
End of day, wasn’t your fault. Not like you’ve had them over hammering it round a roundabout.
If was 3-4 Plts and they were happy to lend a couple of lads from warehouse to give a hand then maybe, but 18plts; no chance!
Wont do any handball at all ( done my share in the past ) and in a situation like that I would just ring up and tell em what`s happened , if they still refused to accept the load I would have drove out with it still on I am not a warehouse man and I have done this on a few occasions ,mostly the warehouse will bottle it and tip you if they know you mean it.
Little bit off topic, but similar attitude,
Years ago, I took a full load of TV games to Currys warehouse in WInchester,
Got there - poked my head through the serving hatch, there were 4 warehouse guys sitting around a pile of pallets playing cards, Big unit 20% full, nothing going on at all, forktruck sitting in the middle of the floor, doors wide open, not a wagon in site - except mine
Me - ‘Hello fella’s’
them - ‘what you got drive?’
Me - ‘say’s TV games on the notes’
them - ‘Are they booked in?’
Me - ‘Search me mate, I am just the driver’
SO with that,
the head honcho get up, walks over to me, looks in his book, looks at my notes, says -’ Not on my sheet mate - you’ll have to take them away’. I say, ‘you are hardly rushed off your feet mate, I’ll take them off myself if it helps’
He says ‘no mate’
SO I walk across the corridor, phone my depot, they say, ‘wait there, we’ll book them in now’.
A minute later, I hear a phone ring upstairs, a couple of mins later, the extension in the warehouse rings, Same guy picks it up, has a natter, shakes his head & puts the phone down.
Looks at me & laughs ‘You’ll have to bring them back tomorrow’
I say ‘Not me mate, I am off somewhere else tomorrow these will go back in our warehouse for another couple of weeks’
Him - ‘Oh - but they are waiting for these’
Me ‘Too bad you lazy sh** - you had your chance, just think about how much today has cost, next time you buy something’
And with that - out I drove
The very next day, I had a full load for Superdrug at Croydon - Guess what?
Refused the whole load - didn’t like the pallets
I offered to restack the lot ( I was younger & keener 30 years ago) - but they said ‘NO - your lot have got to learn a lesson!’
So I took that lot back - made a scenic drive back over Tower Bridge - you could then!
It seems in some instances that companies offer to do the work for a lower price, and are told the drivers are expected to assist with unloading, but the companies never tell or even ask the drivers. So i got a load for an RDC of i go and its milk in trolleys, booked in, got on the bay, hooked my keys up and went for coffee, 10 minutes later a guy comes in ready drive
, so after a few words i have to get in the trailer ( cos theyre not insured ) push these trolleys up a slight incline, and across the warehouse floor, 1st goes ok, 2nd ok, 3rd, i was ■■■■■■ off so pushed it so hard it fell over, and the 4th 5th then they told me to go have a coffee, after unloading i pulled out with them not too happy.
Next load i took in there was flowers, they expected me to sort out all the different plants/flowers, onto different pallets, so i asked them politely to tell the wholesaler to sort them before despatching, they said its none of their business, so i said, ok then its none of mine and left them to it, after a 3 hr wait i was clear to go, the firm wasnt happy that i had not done what they had negotiated and i wish they wouldnt do that, i dont mind helping out, but sometimes they take liberties, and after all i am hired as a class 1 driver, not a class 1 driver/loader/unloader sorry. If i went for a job on containers, i would ask if i was expected to un,load the bloody things, if they said YES, i would say BYE BYE.
I would love to get to a petrol station in a tanker and say…‘there you go’ and watch them try and off load or a Car Transporter and tell them to get their cars off. Aint gonna happen and thats why they are paid more than Box jockies so until they pay you to handball etc let em get on with it.
Many moons ago I used to take drinking straws to a 3663 rdc at first it was a handball job no pallets a full 7.5t load, We were expected to put them on pallets and even shrink wrap them too on the bay,
Due to this taking up a loading bay for several hours,(as we never rushed & always had a break in their canteen) it was palletised ,and became a 18 toner job But the supplier would use crappy pallets, even though he was told that they wouldn’t accept them as they wanted them on cheps ,
I can remember one occasion 2 7.5 toners where sent i was driving one of em, and due to the attitude of the jobsworth of a warehouse manager who thought he was above everyone, Both the vehicles ended up not being tipped until the following morning when warehouse staff where able to help re stack both loads , because we refused to re stack without assistance
We got a bollocking of the boss , but we didn’t care, and would refuse again , as our job description is drivers not labourers , Not only this but what if you where to injure yourself whilst re stacking the load in there warehouse, ? who would you claim off?

Waitrose/Khuene & Nagel are a Pain in the Arse, can’t wait until they build the new Distribution Centre at Magna near J13, then it’s going to be Waitrose running it in house. We never seem to get problems with Waitrose Bracknell or John Lewis, Mk.Martin,
As I understand it, the guys at Celestia have already been told some months back that they are moving over to Magna Park when it opens (in about a years time?). The MP site is supposedly Amb only. Not sure what the plans are for Brinklow, but driver speculation seems to be that the Frozen will come up from Theale to Brinklow, making it into a Chill/Frozen depot. Ill hold judgement on that for now!TBF, Bracknell and Aylesford GI are pretty much spot on, pity the same cant be said for Leyland (where time stands still!)
That A421 J13=>MK roadworks is going to be a PITA for the next year thats for sure - busy at the best of times without the planned random night closures as well. I think J14 will be pretty busy for the next year as a result
Oh no I’m going to waitrose leyland tomorrow.
Even know my bay number … scary!
They’re a law unto themselves at some of these RDC’s.
Make me laugh some of these RDC’s. I had one pallet collapsed when I was delivering to Asda in Magna Park one Christmas Eve. They said the pallet needed to be re-stacked (only about 10 small boxes) so I said i’d do it as I wanted to get home with Christamas looming… but due to ‘Health & Safety’ I wasn’t allowed into their warehouse to re-stack the pallet on their premises as I wasn’t insured so had to do this outside the gates of their depot

When will people realise this ‘you’re not insured to be here’ bollox is just that.
It seems to have become the go to get out of jail card as people don’t question it.
I’ve yet to see a public liability insurance that excludes non employees. If you’re on any of someone’s premises then you’re covered.
Exactly. Aldi are happy for you to motor around inside their warehouses on 3 wheeled death carts, yet tune and Nigel, or whatever they’re called moan at you for stepping a foot outside of the yellow footpaths.
I’m not paid as a warehouse man /person …I’m paid as a driver. to load and unload not stack and split or put into particular lines for pickers …
they’ll have you driving the fork lifts next And yes you DON’T NEED A LICENCE to drive one
I take it you’ve yet to experience Aldi
Freight Dog:
I take it you’ve yet to experience Aldi
I have ad the quickest way to tip is drive the thing too fast so it tips over
Just tell them you can’t stack the pallets as health and safety requires you to sit in the drivers room. Hand over your keys and politely ask for them back when they’ve finished.
Play them at their own game.

Does this happen at any other RDC’S? I’ve never known it or have any on here been asked similar?Yes Morrison are notorious for doing that, they’d ask you to come in & help split down your load in order to get your paperwork done quicker. Next they’ll be asking us to load it onto their trailers…
Morrison Stockton expect you to help ( normally only till they have unloaded you but depends who is on ) but no other Morrisons will allow you in wearhouse
Have been asked by boss if mind helping to unload ( mainly push pallets to back of trailer ) dont mind as not all the time does make for a change of just staying in cab getting stiff but yep there is a limit would never re stack 18 pallets on own

Morrison Sittingbourne was notorious for it, I still loved the place, more than tesco anyway, ha:lol:
