I agree, and think most posters who do it are incapable of or too lazy to edit the quote.

If you need to respond to ONE post then please just quote the ONE post.
Or only quote the specific text that is relevant to your response, and make sure you edit out the extra /quote marks

Multi quotes show like this for me. Not a problem at all and if I want to see whats being referred to then I can just expand the box.
That seems to work ok, is that ‘Tappatalk’ or is already on the iPhone?

Ooooo look a moan about tnet from this fella,
What’s that supposed to mean?
I’m not the only one who finds it annoying either, my android copes perfectly fine and no upgrade needed. I just find it pointless having to scroll through stuff I’ve already read. Pictures!!! same pic repeated really ticks me off.
It’s not unique to TN either, a lot of forums are the silly same.

Come on mods, and posters! it really is getting ridiculous with repeat quoting If you need to respond to ONE post then please just quote the ONE post. When on the tablet or phone it’s a ball ache going through continuous quote after quote - it’s really not difficult to sort out. You could simply put a post in without quoting anything - most people are intelligent enough to get your gist.
I’ve said it before but nothing has been done, surely I’m not the only one who thinks this
You would like to think so, and bugger, I tried to join the multi quote, but it wasn’t having it

me too
i disagree with what he’s agreeing with for this reason
Some excellent and very true comments in this topic!!
However, IMHO we should all bear in mind that TN has a very large membership and that all members therefore fit somewhere on the spectrum of abilities and knowledge of I.T. and other teccy stuff like mobile devices etc.
Having said that, it’s true that the quoted quotes setting is 10 in the board software as posted above, but we should bear in mind that there will be some people who simply don’t realise that a quote is editable without affecting the post that is being quoted.
I’ve honestly no idea whether there’s a good reason that quoted quotes setting is set at 10, but it is adjustable.
I’m leaving that one to Rikki.
The re-quoted pictures thing is to do with where the picture is stored.
Let’s just say that there has long been a sticky that suggests that it’s better to use TN’s software to post pictures as attachments, but who takes the time to read the stickies??
I can reduce the nested quotes— any ideas on how many? down to 2? maybe

2 seems fine to me - cannot think of an occasion where more than that is necessary
Can the system automatically cut off the rest?
While I agree that it’s annoying when people continuously use lots of unnecessary nested quotes instead of editing out what’s not necessary for the post to make sense, I think to have only two nested quotes allowed is far to few, you have to remember that some people may be reading a conversation for the first time and it needs to make sense to them as well as the people already involved in the conversation, very often a conversation will have other posts in-between the relevant posts so there are occasions when nested quotes make sense.
Having said that it never makes sense for people to continually re-quote everything in a conversation, in this thread nested quotes have been used as a bit of a ■■■■ take but it’s common to see this sort of quoting in serious conversations and where it’s completely pointless.

I’ve just tried to make a post where I tried to post three very short nested quotes and couldn’t
Well done on helping to [zb] the board up

Easy enough to split the quotes if more than 2 are necessary

Yes it’s tapatalk.

It takes much longer and takes up more room on the page, now where’s the bloody sense in that

How often are more than 2 necessary is the main question that needs considering

Rubbish, this is supposed to be a discussion forum, it’s how easy it is to have discussions without completely fragmented threads and without having to spend time needlessly and time consumingly editing posts that should be considered first.
i think it’s fine as it is, what’s wrong with scrolling past if you know what it’s about? it’ll make multi page threads a nightmare. and debates within threads you’re going to be going backwards and forwards to who’s saying what to who.
another forum i use automatically hides most of quotes, but with a show more button, is that possible here?

Do you mean as it is or as it was, it’s now down to a limit of a quote with one nested quote inside it.

Totally agree with Tachograph, should be 3, just in case someone misses your point in their quote slightly.
