Possibly caught by handheld speed gun

During lockdown on roads l used regularly, Police on bikes were regularly using Hand held speed guns and were pulling in speeding drivers immediately. I’m sure they would have pulled you immediately if there was a problem.

I think you’ll be ok (l know it’s easy to say if it’s not you) but you’ll know for sure within 14 days.

Juddian:
I suspect it was your lucky day, and yes you get so used to watching out for vans you tend to forget the hand held traps, a handy reminder for all of us they are still in use

Yup. I was pottering along the A5 by Tamworth one day in the rain and saw a copper stood up on one of the overhead foot ways with his speed gun! Bloody keen, was out of his car in the rain so very keen to catch people out

Don’t worry one of the perfect prefects will probably be along shortly to chastise you about speeding in your killing machine :unamused:

Its a limit not a target

Every police force has there own cut off point. This tends to be 10% +2mph or some forces 10% +3mph. Like dozy said some bloke got done at 33mph but he might have just been saying that’s all he was doing when in fact he was going faster just playing the police out to get me card. At 35mph I’d say you will just be ok. If it was officers in cars rather than one of the yellow speed camera vans then as someone says they would more than likely be pulling anyone in there and then. I’d say you are just about ok.

Pretty sure that 10% + whatever has been ■■■■ canned now and you are prosecutable after just 1mph over. Everyone knew about the leeway and used to just drive a few over anyway. We all know there’s jobs worth’s out there so it’s luck of the draw

I believe the ACPO guidance to police forces still recommends having a threshold. Most forces give it out as public information what the tolerance is. And most are still 10% +2 or 3. It wouldn’t be fair to have it any other way unless they make it law for cars to be calibrated like trucks. Of course you will get the drivers who get hold of this information and feel it’s ok to roll around at 35 in a 30 on purpose because they know they won’t be prosecuted for this. I think most don’t and do drive at the speed limit.

Agreed, however when I was getting dragged over the coals by my MT Sgt once, he reminded me that all car speedos are overclocked. If you get pinged doing 32, your speedo says 35. You get flashed doing 64 in a 60, your speedo will probably be saying 67.

They should definitely make it an mot thing to have the speedo calibrated such as trucks. It would save the morons plodding along through average speed limits 5mph under whilst all the British trucks (EE ones just do 56 in the outside lane) have to keep weaving past the slow drivers

All vehicles sold in the UK have instrument error of between 5-8%, but they all have to over-read by law. The ACPO guidelines exist to cover the Instrumentation error, the math is boring, but if you ever compare the speedo with speed on a GPS you will notice the difference.

Truck tachos and Police vehicles are calibrated, my job motorcycle is +/- 2 mph. So, now you know why the Police always seem to speed past you when doing the legal limit and Miss Miggins is driving like it was the flintstones car.

If it was the community speed watch, they don’t prosecute. They send the RK a warning letter about the time/place and speed, if you get several in a row they prosecute due to driver behavior. If the copper was using it with some probationers, then wait for the 14 days for the NIP.
