Tankerman:
Further reading says the Port of Mostyn handles the wing transfer, maybe the ones you escorted were the frames for smaller wings or they are smaller before they are finally assembled.
Hi Tankerman,
Thanks for the extra info, I didn’t realise that the components went on such a convoluted journey before final assembly.
The things I escorted did seem to be like pieces of a giant meccano kit, so they probably were sub-assemblies.
Towards the end of the second world war and for a while afterwards these RAF carriers were a common sight. I remember them coming though our village but had no idea where they were going.
They were know as Queen Mary’s and would have a wing or fuselage on the back.

Yes but I didn’t take it, it is from their web site.
Here’s an Airbus trailer leaving Seaforth, for Chester.
It carries large sheets of Aluminium which are shipped over on the Broshuis trailer. The truck turns up at the dock with an empty trailer (the sections stack-up to shorten it), the trailer goes back to USA on an ACL ship and it picks up a new one, loaded which has just come across the Atlantic.
