I think the issue could be solved far easier buy ensuring companies do proper licence checks with the authorities of which ever country the driver they are employing comes from, instead of just relying on the bit of paper or plastic card they’re shown.
TROTSKY3:
you guys certainly know how to treat a lady .
Heat and kitchen situation mate.
(Note: use of word “kitchen” in female drivers context …I aint being sexist )

Of course not
I dont think it about ‘how to treat a lady’ It is more about thinking things through before hitting ‘submit’
Someone i know from Bulgaria has all the bus and lorry categories yet he wont even move a rigid in our yard. He paid an extra 50 Euro to have those added to his licence.

How about we re-educate the non LGV drivers?Like already mentioned their LGV awareness in general seems to be very poor in this country.
Would it really cost that much (compared to the value of a life saved) to put adverts on the Radio and the Telly, highlighting danger points of blind spotting, tailgating, getting ahead of, pulling out in front of, pulling into safety zones of LGV’s, how much room that LGV may need to turn left or right or to negotiate a roundabout and not forgetting left ■■■■■■ awareness (I mean we know a left ■■■■■■ just by a quick glance either at the licence plate or the offside mirror, does your average joe mondeo?)
And why isn’t this taught during the CBT for Bike riders and in the theory test for cars?
Periodic driver education is deemed necessary now for professional drivers (the DCPC I’m talking about) Imagine if that ongoing training/awareness was applied to ALL road users?!
Start a petition about this and you’ll get my vote, and I dare say a few others on here too.
^^^ This
As I have said before scrap the HPT test for all drivers & replace with a simulator that has bike car & large vehicle all drivers must pass this before going out on road

If we required foreign drivers to take a British driving test, what’s to stop other countries doing the same to our drivers? How many driving tests would we have to take to drive to eastern Europe? Answer is none, as their drivers would do the job as they can take the British test and all the other countries en route allow them to drive through. Or they just wouldn’t bother doing business with us.
IMHO, I think the point being made is that, ANY driver from a foreign country, that wants to drive for a BRITISH company should have to take a UK test.

I took a Belgian kooiap/moffit course, it took all of 3minutes along the lines of ‘‘That lever is up, that one is down, hook it up to the back of your trailer and go back to UK with your 20 drops’’
The Dutch one was even shorter, in fact I didn’t even take one.
As for the driving course/test in these 2 countries, I would assume it is of a higher standard judging by most of the drivers that I know there, that is why I get narked by the Foreign driver hater knobs on here.
The moffit course I did was half a day.
