As has pointed out above it may well work ok at some firms but on the whole i’d personally be dubious of working for a firm that intends to pay using that method.
I worked at such a dubious place where me and my mate did the same loads all week and I earned more than him in bonus. Amount carried irrelevant as it was by the load.

Then there’s my question… suppose you spend a day in the yard, because there’s no work for your truck, or your truck is in for servicing/inspection. Would you be paid for that time??
That happened at times, though the gaffer would sometimes let me have his work while he stayed in the yard. If not then I was guarranteed £40 for the day and could usually find a job to do on the truck like greasing or changing the oil, relining a brake etc. All the usual things that small hauliers had to do. That saved having to do it when we were busy or at weekends, ‘swings and roundabouts’ or ‘give and take’ however you want to label it but it all worked out OK in the end for both parties and it was the best job I ever had.

I worked for a company years ago that included % bonus on lorry earning. I noticed that the blue eyed drivers got the better paying jobs!

I was one of the few there with eyes correctly aligned and matching in colour.
