Hi BD.
Yes you have found some grand pic’s,thanks as always.
A plus when you can quote some names.
Mike.
I guess that when those pics were taken I was the only one out actually working! A few of those lads no longer with us I’m afraid, though Tony is still around with a truck on Tarm*c and lives not far from me. I collected that Foden of Tony’s when it was brand new from our depot at Reddish and when I got it back to the quarry the gaffer saw that it was fitted with a ■■■■■■■ 250 L10 engine. It so happened that there was a fitter from ■■■■■■■ working in the quarry that day and he asked the TM where our furthest quarry was, the answer was Gore quarry at Kington (Dave the Renegade country) and the fitter told our TM to send it there as the engines were useless and it was best off gone! So off it went to Gore, where it expired while still under warranty, only to return a few years later when Tony bought it, he was our storeman for many years and then had a brainstorm and bought a truck. It was later owned by STB Transport.
I believe that the AEC Marshal ended up in Australia, we did still have one on internal duties when I started there in 1975 but it struggled to get up to the quarry tip with being so high geared. Dont know where you find them Bonkey but you have done well.
Pete.
You know me Windrush, I have many fingers in many pies.
All the time.
Seriously, more to come as and when. Glad you enjoyed them.

Some pics that I took back in the early 90’s on the Carsington Water construction job near Wirksworth. Pic quality not good, my camera wasn’t the best in the world! The first dam split about a week before filling commenced so it all had to be redone, these pics are of the second one. A tough job, we at Tilcons Ballidon quarry supplied stone (and later the tarmac) and large boulders and other stone came from Tarmacs Middle Peak and (I think?) Dene quarries. A lot of clay, and deadly when wet, you launched yourself down the slope into the bottom of the bowl trying to avoid dumpers etc that had priority, even though you couldn’t stop and they could! And then you waited for something to come past to pull you back up again. Some firms refused to run wagons to the job, it was only about three miles from our quarry as the bird flies, but we had to avoid local villages which doubled the mileage plus there was very few places where it was level enough to get into top gear! Now a major tourist attraction in the area.
Pete.
Good stuff Pete.I’ve been round Carsington Water a couple of times. It always amazed me how it just suddenly came into view from the Ashbourne direction, reminded me of Rutland Water.
I’ll bet those Fodens earned their collar and I’ll bet you weren’t popular running there either. I remember how some buggers got up in arms when applications went in for quarry extensions in North Derbyshire, mostly rich chuffs from Sheffield who didn’t give a toss for the local economy.

Missed your post on this thread Pete.We have driven around Carsington Water. The strange thing is that I never gave it a thought who hauled the materials when the Dam was built.Great pics, and good to see your Tilcon Foden. It was a sad day when they sold the Gore this way.
Cheers Dave.
