Bonkey has a better pic of Geoff earlier in this thread Dan, taken at Ballidon garage in the B reg that he drove… Baz Mc Cabe drove the other one, also sadly gone. The Sellers S80 tipper was a Tilcon tanker originally.
Pete.
Brilliant BD the Dodge of H.Evans showing the usual sign of the gate post
on the near side. And Porter Lane in its naked state, looks a bloody mess now.

I know I have just slipped out of the Peak District with this pic but not by much and I’ll bet
you old un’s will have collected and delivered to railway goods yards in the good old days.
When life was a bit slower and there was always five minutes ( or even thirty ) for a chat,
the good old days, never mind we can’t stop progress if that’s what they call it.
Came across these in a box but don’t know who took them.

Any of you lads remember H.Pheasey from Bakewell (or was it Ashford)and if they are still going? I don’t think they had tippers,I only recall them running flats.Chris
Pheasey’s finished a long time ago Chris, my mate drove for them (as did my Neighbour who worked on the NORDE). One of their artics ran away on the A619 from Wadshelf to the island at Baslow and killed a woman in her car, the woman’s daughter started the organization known as BRAKE as a result of her mother’s death and has had a “downer” on lorries ever since. The truck driver was (allegedly) going too fast in top gear, he had alredy caused another death somewhere on the A1 I believe and Pheasey’s closed shortly afterwards. Their yard on the A6 is now a business park and I think that the last of the founders sons died last year, another of the sons was run over and killed by his own lorry during maintenance work.
They ran flats and also used to do milk churn work with petrol engined Bedfords to the Sheffield area.Pete.
I drove for Herbert Pheasey in 1970-1, I drove a AEC mercuary with a 505 engine. at that time 1t was a fine
truck Could catch pigeons. A good fellow to drive for, he even filled up my self converted austin a60 diesel
car free (he said it would save me syphoning it) Reet good times.

Hello old mate,
the engine I used was a BMC 1500cc,same block size as the 1600 petrol fitted as standard to a 60 car
To fit the diesel I got it down to a fine art ;; redrill front mounts 1" forwards and shorten prop by the
same. also if I remember right I bashed a dent in the front axle beam to make room for the fatter diesel
starter motor. The reason for this was the flywheel and bellhousing was thicker, I got all my 1500 diesels
from ex post office J4 vans, never paying more than £25 .Got stopped by the law often for a diesel checks
the reason they stopped me was the very noisy air intake, said they could hear me coming a mile away!!
50 mpg on a run . Reet good times, never happy unless your hands were black

don’t encourage him dave , he just put years on me . when i see some of the stuff i used to drive i suddenly feel old . that j type bedford on the second pic was what i drove on farm deliveries , and also one of the s types , and i recall the lad cabbed reiver coming brand new . i think the last photos were taken at their yard in chapel , now somersets .i noticed a tractor on one of the shots , i wonder if it is the one derek got killed on pulling the tree down . dave
Hello old mate,
I also drove the last J type of dericks, what a camel it was, gutless 300 engine 10 ton up
I am certain the lads would not drive it today, any way I knocked the side boards off it
outside the dev pub ashwood dale after hitting an overhanging steel roller on the back of a
BRS artic. It certainly was hard going ,just like an old l/rover wandering all over the road
Also as I remember Bob Broomhead drove the LAD followed by my old mate Ken Doolan,
sadly neither are with us now.
Just out of interest did you ever know a chap called bill mullins, he was a fitter for derick
circ 1970, would love to hear from him.

One of our mechanics had a similar car (Oxford/A60) but I think he used a gearbox with an electrical overdrive, he also had another fuel tank back to back behind the rear seat, the boss let him fill it with diesel and he could go fishing to Scotland and back at the weekend on a tankful.

Not Graham then? He lived in one of Herbert’s houses on the A6 at ashford but he did drive a Marshall. Carted a lot of asphalt blocks from Permanite etc.
Pete.
Robert Pheasey came out to show me how to use my ■■■■■■■ injector setting tool last year and set up the jake, he is very precise ,he used to rebuild my dads 9 speed fullers too.
it is nice to know that robert is still about dan , he was at hazel croft in 2001 , top bloke and a damned fine mechanic . he wouldn’t be rushed and the job had to be done properly . if you se him again give him my best regards , cheers , dave
hiya george , i finished at derrek’s about 1966 so i can’t recall bill mullins , but i knew black bob broom head well . with ref to pheasey’s i only knew one of their drivers , dave batty from peak forest , that man was a master at roping and sheeting , he was at somersets when i was , he wouldn’t have a curtainsider , only a flat and he could sheet it while i was pulling my curtains , cheers , dave
