PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION (Part 1)

The Adam Jones Scania is the same company from the Black Country as has already been mentioned, think they are now based in Halesowen, vehicle is in someones contract colours. They used to be Blue, being on the go for years, i think we will have had one of theirs on at sometime. Corgi did an Atkinson Borderer in their colours, here is one of a later Scania, before they went to the dreaded plain white of today.

I was just going to say that - but you beat me to it Lance. Door handle was the giveaway for me, although the arch with side repeater in it made me think 401 for a sec.

I think the ERF EC would of been new to Watson’s of Bedford .

The Adam Jones is in steel and alloy West Brom colours just of junction 1 union st you can see the top of the works from the m5

Always handy still being verical chap !  I dont blame you growing your own vegtables chap. On my walks recently i have
noticed how quickly the crops have been growing but there are no weeds in the field, makes you wonder what we are eating. :unamused:
Mostly pesticides & herbicides, I reckon! Stay safe, chap!

Yes 100% “ROF”. The other thing i have noticed for along time is there are hardly any rabbits about these days when walking in
the countryside. I did see 7 hares the other week which were normally harder to spot than rabbits. Buzzer may know why rabbits
have disappeared ?:

Hi, Dean, Checking in as instructed! The rabbits were recovering quite well from the myximatosis scandal that some of us are old enough to remember. Then along come even more deadly pesticides & herbicides from the likes of Monsanto. Coupled with farmers trying to grow more and more cereals instead of grass and hay for their milking herds and you don’t have very much for the rabbits to eat for ten or eleven months of the year. Which is why we have to import milk from France (Brexit will ■■■■ that up!) and why the country’s soil structure is collapsing at an alarming rate. As to your spotting the hares, they’re able to live on a much more varied diet that rabbits so they are still doing O.K. at the moment. Any time you would like another agronomy lecture to brighten up your day, just give me the word. If Boring was an Olympic sport I’d have a shed full of gold medals.

Looks like the usual ‘wiper linkage dropping off’ problem as well as the drivers one is missing! Those diesel tanks were on the opposite side on the eight wheelers and actually protruded outside the overall body width, some operators wrote a warning on them to loading shovel drivers advising them of that.

Pete.

windrush:
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Thank’s Pete, could be Solihull as we once did a lot of work around that area before my time behind the wheel. Re the Foden Twin Load, I thought it a good idea (as presumably Fodens did!) but it didn’t take off for some reason? It would be more stable than a wagon and drag, and fewer tyres to wear, and possibly easier to manoeuvre as well? Anyway it ‘died a death’ alas. :unamused:

The Scammell Townsman 3 wheeler of Harveys I used to occasionally see travelling through Reading on the old A4 as well, presumably on its way to London from Bristol? Quite a journey for what was basically a vehicle designed for shunting trailers in rail depots etc and local deliveries, 100+ miles each way! I wonder if the driver became deaf in later life?

Pete.

Thats a fair old run like you say Pete in one of those little Scammell’s.

Chris Webb:

I think that Adam Jones were from the ‘Black Country’ area Dean?

Pete.

Yes Pete,Blackheath I think.

Thanks for the info Pete/Harvey.

Hi Dean.
The Bulk Cocoa Butter wagon was from Hull,I remember seeing that company in 70s.Not sure if it was a own account vehicle or a contractor.

Ok cheers Chris.

1

Frontier Agriculture - is the UKs biggest grain trading and arable farm support business, accounting for 20% of the UK grain market, which is approx 5 million tonnes annually. It is jointly owned by Cargill and Associated British Foods. It was formed in 2005 with the merger of Allied Grain and Sidney C. Banks (which was then owned by Cargill). The head office is at Witham St. James, Lincs. and they have several depots nationwide. The residue from the huge Cargill plant in Trafford Park, which processes thousands of tonnes of wheat weekly, is used as animal feed known as Trafford Gold, and it can stick in a tipper like the proverbial brown stuff to a woolly thing, as I know from personal experience at a farm near Shap village one Saturday afternoon when i covered a load that had been missed off Frontier’s planning schedule. It was one of those times when I wished I hadn’t bothered.

As gingerfold says, Frontier are a nationwide concern. They used to run a few lorries out of the grain silo in Andover. All empty there now and I think the lorries now operate out of H Dolton & Sons old feed mill at Red Shute, Hermitage near Newbury.
