PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION (Part 1)

windrush:
I did vintage shows with an ex Bayley’s driver, sadly he passed away only a few years ago but his sister who is in her eighties still exhibits vintage machinery and is actually one of the stewards for the Smallwood and North Rode vintage rallies. Nice to see some Foden pics Dean! That Stown Hall MAN tipper is familiar as well but can’t just place where from?

Pete.

Thats the last person you would expect to be exhibiting machinery at shows. In her 80’s !

Hi Dean,
They had a quarry near Stouport

Buzzer:
The AKT DAF could have been Arthur Kneller Transport from Southampton, some one will concur or say different Buzzer

Good one Buzzer, sounds like a winner.

jshepguis:
ERF is painted in Bell Line Container colours they had a terminal at Newport and also a terminal at Teesport of the two i know of.

Thanks for confirming the name chap. :unamused:

Ray Smyth:
“DEANB”

Anyone recognise the LHD F88 parked here outside the truck garage near to the Truckline ferry terminal at Poole.
There is a name on the door ■■

The left handed Volvo F88 in picture 1 has an Isle Of Wight number plate, so some of you Hampshire and Dorset chaps should recognise it.

Cheers, Ray.

Thanks Ray.

smallcoal:

Old Seddon of Meachers of Southampton. Dont recognise where the pic was taken, anyone know ■■

The DAF? AKT? Arthur Kneller Transport??
EDIT. Buzzer beat me to it.
The Meachers Seddon is I think in West Quay Road, turning by the entrance to the lorry park at the back of the Central Baths. Didnt they have a depot there? The metal silos in the background are part of Pirellis Cables. Check from this Echo picture.

Thanks for confirming the AKT and for where the Seddon was taken, that was a favourite spot of Mark & Paul’s for taking pics.

As a kid in the 1970’s i must have gone down that road but cant remember it at all,as we used to normally go to Rank Hovis on the docks.
Paul mentioned the lorry park to me yesterday that you mentioned.

Roberts obviously lost the plot as he missed the fact that he could have popped one of his NGC’s on here as this one used to pull
loads out of Pirelli ! :unamused:

finbarot:
Re the Daf 2800, if that reg is original, ie 1975 its a 2800, the 3300 came around the Y/A reg 1982/83 with the 3600 about C reg 1986 I think

Cheers “finbarot” reckon its a 2800 then chap.

vwvanman0:
The french f86 looks to have a magi deutz sleeper grafted on

Great pics as ever.

Steve

Do you know what Steve i am glad you mentioned that ! I looked at that pic several times as i thought there was something a
bit odd with the cab and i think you are spot on its definately had a sleeper added.

Heres another conversion.

Suedehead:
That looks a bit weighty matey
Cracking pic

Pic not mine  . Those step-frame tilts were not nice to use, especially heavy. They were OK for light-weight high-bulk loads, but those little tyres didn’t like weight; and many of the tilt frames were tall so for a short-arse driver, slinging the canopy sides onto the roof was hard work. Give me a low-profile straight-frame tilt any day. Or better still, retirement  . Ro

Thanks for the pic and comments Rob and “Suedehead”

Franglais was right in the fact that Meacher’s had a depot off West Quay road on the left IIRC going towards dock gate 10, they did a lot of work for Pirelli and also there was a gantry from Pirelli direct into the docks to carry cable to cable laying ships, anyone remember that Buzzer

Nice pics Smallcoal

I worked for Bonds some years ago. I grew up in the same village and have known the family all my life… Lovely people who will always help anyone if they can

FG Bond was started by Fred in 1934. He passed over the reins to his son who has, in turn, passed over the day to day running to HIS son…

They ran Dodges almost exclusively until the late eighties, all tippers running from local quarries. They swopped over to ERF, mostly the ES6 with the Steyr cab for the 4 wheelers, then onto Foden for some years.

Nowadays they run a mixture of Daf, Volvo and Scania with a couple of Fodens still lurking in the background, tippers and crane lorries, all bought new, well specced and smart. Well known at the Truck shows because they genuinely ARE so clean - constant trophy winners…

I put a lot of pictures on Bubbs’s Scrapbook Memories thread some years ago, if anyone wants to see more…

Dean Bartlett by any chance?!

Bryan Haulage was from Okehampton as far as I can remember,

2006_10280249p.JPG

The TF 86 with ( French) sleeper cab was from haulage firm Courtin from Angers . Before a Volvo fleet, they owned Bernard like this one.

That Foden in the Carmans article was a very early version of that model, up to and including A and some B registrations we were still getting the earlier cab type? We didn’t have many of the S10 cabs until the B registrations appeared, luckily I had a C reg one new by which time things like the gearlever and linkage etc had been modified to make it lighter!

Hi Dean, Abbey Tankers are from Great Howard Street in Liverpool. About 10 years ago, there was an amusing picture on
the " Letters " page in the Daily Mail. The picture was taken on Sandbach Services on the M6. There was a Downton lorry
from Gloucester, and an Abbey tanker, but because the way they were parked, and the humour of the cameraman, the
wording showed " Downton Abbey ". Does anyone remember the picture ?

Ray.

Tricentrol, to become Trimoco, was a big Ford car, truck, coach dealership based mainly in Bedfordshire. Coach dealers and converted vans to minibuses. A quite big coach company too based in Dunstable. I seem to remember the builders merchants was based in Greenfield, Beds. But I might be wrong?

240 Gardner:

DEANB:
Never heard of Tricentrol builders merchants. Anyone know where they were based ■■

I don’t know what became of them, but Tricentrol was a big outfit in its day, not only builders merchants but also motor dealerships, and even coach sales I think. I’ve a vague recollection that the HQ was in Luton, but I’m not certain
