PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION (Part 1)

Morning Dean.
I recognise the Transcontinental but just can’t think of the operator, they are from either Hartlepool or Teesside.
Plevin Transport are from Manchester area, maybe Hyde.I think they did a lot of wood shavings…

Cant make the name out on the Transcon ■■
The car in the pic is a Simca1301 or 1501 Dean, collected a few of that model mid to late '60s from Soton docks, the thing that really sticks in my mind was the interiors always had a lovely smell or to be french a whiff of parfumerie . another useless bit o twaddle
Oily

Transcontinental does have a Hartlepool Co. Durham reg just wondering if it is one of Dents of Spennymoor ? They did operate a few Transcontinentals.

Yes,looking at cab side there looks like a name in large italics like Dents.RAH transporters from Darlington had similar I think. It does have a beacon on top of cab so could possibly run long loads.

Haulmaster spec sheets.

Tilcon Foden tanker GET 386V was based at Ballidon quarry and driven by Vernon Wibberley. He had his 92nd birthday this month, the youngest of three brothers who all worked at Ballidon for most of their lives. Like me he never got to work his last day there, his was to Presteign, as his load was cancelled alas. Sadly he has had to go into a home as his health isn’t good, Peggy his wife died a few years ago. His oldest lad worked with me in the garage and retired from there a couple of years ago, and his nephews all had a spell at the quarry before buying there own trucks plus his and his brothers wives also worked there! That pic was framed by his son and grandchildren and presented to him when he was 90, his old AEC Mammoth Major tanker from 1964 is still in Rush Green Motors yard. That Foden was the first with the 265 Rolls engine that we had, and it was also the last engine I rebuilt before going driving full time. Yet more useless information from Pete! :unamused:

Pete.

The Heritage Commercial article mentions that some Haulmasters came with the incorrect radiators fitted, many of ours were like that. I think that Gardner engined ones had four row rads as they ran cooler and the Rolls six row, most Rolls ones we had came with the four row (although we didn’t realise until the ‘memo’ arrived) so Foden supplied new six row cores for them. A simple task, remove the rad (eight 3/8th nuts) and unbolt the top and bottom tanks and remove the ‘old’ core and fit the new ones. Easy when the truck is relatively new of course!

Pete.

Talking about new trucks having the wrong parts fitted Pete, reminds me of the story my grandad told me about 2 x new Commers
he bought. For some reason one of them was using lots of oil and the could not understand why. It turned out that it never had
any piston rings fitted in the engine. :unamused:

This brochure was too big for the scanner so 2 pages ended up as 3 as it was the only way of copying it.
