The Irish Daf removal artic belongs to Oman moving and storage from KildareâŚthey took over a very well known and established company from Dublin Beverly SmythâŚin all fairness very modern thinking company and very well turned out trucksâŚI think someone in the company had something to do with another well known company from Cork Nat Ross who were part of Eurovan.Regards Mark

I remember Beverly Smyth being feature in an âIrish Specialâ edition of Comical Motor c.1977. Strangely, I later knew a chap called Beverly Smyth (he actually changed his name) but he wasnât Irish and told me that there was no connection

Thanks for posting the above Dean, eager to read it I was but began to wonder how remote the author was nâer mind the places he was writing about. Geography a bit off and main hauliers of that area and time donât get a mention.

Nortons Transport Maggie.
Norton (Harry Norton, as I recall) was based in Cleveleys, near Fleetwood. Amongst other work, they did traction work for B+I Line and their unaccompanied trailers from Eire. The monochrome photo doesnât show it, but the rather mixed fleet was painted bright orange, as you can see from this picture from Chris Richardsâ fantastic collection of his own photos:

The Oldham ERF on page 382 was from Oldham Batteries at Denton, Manchester.
Their company advertising saying was " I TOLD ` EMâŚOLDHAM ". I believe their
former factory site is now full of modern houses. Ray.
Or, to put it another way, âWhatâs the best way to 'old 'em?â
Similar to, âhow far can you Irlam?â

David Snook runs out of a farm just South of Tadly, below Reading.
Was big in grain and animal feeds but now think downsized and general haulage.

Thanks for the comments about Nortonâs Chris. I think that Seddon Atkinson looks awful with that added axle.

Hi Dean, You mentioned Beverly Smyth in reply to comments from Chris, I recall not long ago, seeing dark green Smyth lorries
very often, donât know whether they are from Ireland or Northern Ireland. are there any pictures of their lorries on Trucknet ?
My surname is Smyth, and my ancestry 2 generations back is on my paternal side from Newry in Co. Down, right on the border.
Having done just a few journeys to Northern Ireland, I noticed that my name is pronounced Smith, particularly in Co. Down
and Co. Antrim.
