Abbey Hill Group DAF. Whats the car on the back Fiat ■■?
Fiat 132. Most came with 2 litre twin cam engines/5 speed boxes. Not very popular in the UK but really nice cars ( I recall they had a neat slide-down-out-of-the-headlining side window sun visor!).

But rust took its toll …
The front visor was the same- tinted perspex, they were. Superb design. I think of them every time I use the stupid folding padded things you get in other vehicles.
The other thing about 132’s was the back axle. It took a hell of an effort to unstick it, followed by the reactions of a coffee’d-up cat to bring it back into line. I guess a limited slip diff would have helped.

The Lea family had quite a few smaller mills around the area, one of which was at Smithy Green, nr. Peover. One of the family, John, took on a farm a couple of miles to the East at the junction of Holmes Chapel Road and Seven Sisters Lane, for anyone familiar with the area and in later years wrote a fascinating book about his early years in East Cheshire.

Hello Dean and Pete ,thier was a chap from Llay Wrexham ,who had a similar one in dark blue colours ,but not signwritten ,he hauled out of the block works at Llay , Trevor
Thanks for the names Pete and Trevor.

“Retired Old ■■■■”]Doubtful, in those colours, Keith. More likely to be John Norman of Holme Lacy although the lack of sign writing would argue against it. Stumped again!
Hi ROF ,reckon your right ,but how about Ivor Jay from Leominster,he had a few Seddons similar to that one ,regards Keith
Thanks for the comments “ROF” and Keith !

Sold this to a farm hand Borden way, many years ago now.
Whenever he had the spreader tank behind the tractor “posh” people would stop him and ak if he would empty there septic tanks and with the blessing of the farmer he did.
Over some 5 years I supplied him with over 8 vehicles for the contracts he signed up to with Thames water, you got it, he still carried on working for the farmer. Harvey

Morning Dispatcher, Peter got very " brave" one day he bought his huge second hand tank trailer but to use it to spread on the land he neaded traction , to heavy and still no good in poor weather so it had to go.
Bought an F86 flatbed with crane and lifted a storage tank over the hedge into the fields so it could be toped up by road tanks, hence F6, and tractors would spread on fields, he got into that in a big way. Harvey
The Merc artic carrying steel is one of Consolidated Land Services from Scunthorpe, they had a big fleet at one time, running out of the steel works,as well as tankers under the Tanker Hire name. They bought out a haulier in South Wales - could have been S Protheroe but not 100% sure about that.CLS was formed by the amalgamation of H and L Transport Workington and North Lincs Haulage Scunthorpe.

New Milton Sand & Ballast Scania still going strong.
My very first ‘official’ HGV driving job in 1965 was for a subby (E.Dennet&Sons) working for New Milton Sand and Ballast out of their Efford (Lymington) gravel pit, 8 loads a day to Mudeford Gravel at their washery at Hinton (by a pub called 'The Cat and Fiddle) the start of the slippery slope of nearly 50 years on the road.
