Good morning Dean,
Had to go and have a sit down in a dark room after looking at all the F86 postings, well done both of you, great stuff.
Who remembers on a very cold morning having to pull the rack out on the pump on an early F86 to get her going ■■?
I allways think of the little TD70E engine like the 180 Gardner, would pull and pull forever, happy days, Harvey
Must admit Harvey i havent looked at that brochure for a long time and it brought back some happy memories as a kid in my grandads six wheeler which was a quick little motor. I can also remember pulling the rack out on the pump on very cold mornings. I really rated them, cracking little comfortable motors.

Buzzer:
MOLO had a yard at Nursling on the outskirts of Southampton shared with Rentco trailer rentals, the trailer on the transcon is a flat PSK which had twistlocks for containers not uncommon back in the day, you could lay your sheets down on the bed and drop a container over them then you could do a rope & sheet load home, Buzzer.

Thanks for the info Buzzer, sounds like they had a couple of yards then as that one says Poole on it.
smallcoal:
Morning John,
I’m sure one of those trailers ended up round the Black Country, can remember it in a yard in Kingswinford, Cheer’s Pete

Very true Harvey…and just like the Gardner when the cause of a long tailback on a hill was identified it would be a F86,

The F86 was never gonna be quick on hills in artic form like you say “gingefold” but like most manufacturers they built the smaller powered artics like Leyland,Scania etc as there was
obviously a place in the market for them. Mind you as a gaffers motor the payload was
possibly the best in the 32 ton market ■■ If not it would be very close to the top. I seem
to remember the payload with a flat bed was something like 22 tons !!
Talking about tailbacks on hills etc. Back in the 1970s,most trucks were slow on hills but the other thingthat sticks in your mind was the black smoke they used to chuck out even just pulling away
from a junction.

Hi Buzzer,
I had forgotten all about the cut out in the front of a 40’ box, when at Humber McVeigh’s we shifted a lot of Seatrain containers to both Felixstowe and Greenock, and as you rightly said if you didn’t get an empty box to return, you could use your sheets for a return load from elsewhere!

Yep !! you have a point there Gingerfold, good steady and reliable ( Uk sales shows that) the little F86 never appealed to the cowhide clog brigade,
:roll.

Thats why they sold the F88 chaps.
