Isn’t this the one Jimski drove? He made a prize-winning 1:24 model of it, on display at Gaydon last weekend. Robert

Morning Robert,
Jimski told me the Scammell was purchased secondhand by Meachers and was a horrible dull green in colour so Meaches put some stickers on it and sent it to work! Not sure if it was sprayed in the fleet colours later? Cheer’s Pete
Mark R:
Another great selection… Particularly the contrast between the immaculate ERF of Coates and the tatty old MAN of Paul Rea. She’s certainly been worked hard.
Paul will appreciate your comments Mark !

grumpy old man:
Click on pages twice to view.
My younger brother (now retired) was a senior engineer/inspector with VOSA for many years, I used the threaten him with physical violence if he ever came near my lorry or car with his bloody ‘tapping hammer’. The bar steward once told me the spacing was wrong on my car number plates…“Pi*s off”
He was (and is) a great guy, but when he was doing his job …let’s just say he had a reputation…and it wasn’t complimentary.
MaggieD:
Albion ■■ Anyone recognise it.
A.C.L. Maggie.
Cahalin Volvo F10.
Hi Dean,
The Albion is Charltons of Funtley Fareham Hampshire
The Maggie is one of Pitters in customers colours.
Colin Cahalin was an owner driver based in Southampton,
Once again many thanks for all your hard work on this thread, and the brilliant photo’s Paul took.
Regards,Richard
Thanks for the company names and also your comments Richard.

Brain Haulage DAF 2800 4x2 tractor unit Reg No WVX 182S was registered new in January 1978.
Here’s another shot of WVX 182S hauling a couple of twenty foot containers.
ERF KV Reg No 373 FOD was new to Harris & Miners of Devon in October 1960 and apparently was their first ERF.
It was old for £12,925 at auction in September 2012 and having being fully restored can still be seen at various rallies today.

Pete Smith, this looks like one of Appleby’s to me,what do you think ■■

Morning Dean,
Definitely one of Applebys, Dean may I re-post the picture on Black Country Haulier thread, I will credit Paul for the picture?
I recognise the driver I think but cannot put a name to him!
Morning Dean/Paul,
You are spoiling this Black Country lad today!!
1st pic is Chas Pugh’s from Darlaston, still trading!
2nd pic is Tommy Baker, originally from Tipton, opposite the former Vono bed Factory (remember them!) and now on Cakemore road Rowley Regis, another one still trading… a rare comment to make about old established companies nowadays! Thank you very much lads, much appreciated.
Good morning all,
Found a few pics I had forgotten about.
This is one I took at the Marie Curie “Ladys driving challenge”, held on part of the Bovington tank range. 2001
Each woman ( no men allowed ) they could only drop off and pick up at the entrance, were given a card with thier sponsorship to drive over 20 vehicles.
Truck, ambulances, fire engines, police cars and military kit and after each drive they had thier card signed off by the vehicle oporator.
Eldest lady I had was 91 and by god she could handle it, drove in WW2 and a shear joy to be with and talk to.
Trailer loaded and loaned from P&O bournmouth.
Will allways remember the faces of each lady when she passed and had her card signed off. Harvey

Yes they did Pete now you have reminded me. I’ll bet that District Iron has long gone,a very dismal hole,it was good loading though, angle iron for steel stockholders in Yorks, great for a Sheffield based company.
