A1.jpgHere’s an early shot of Atkinson Borderer 4x2 tractor unit Reg No OTF 550M Fleet No 81 ‘Robust’.
Powered by a ■■■■■■■ NH250 engine it was registered new to Riding’s on the 1st of September 1973 and later had one of Riding’s own in house sleeper conversion kits fitted.

Another shot of OTF 550M pictured on the left.
These two Atkinson Borderer’s were coming to the end of their working lives at W & J Riding when the picture was taken, probably in the late seventies - early eighties.
STF 853M Fleet No 68 ‘Britannia’ on the right was a second-hand, purchase from Pandoro.
Both had received in-house sleeper conversions and being ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ would have been high on the disposals list.
STF 853M was sold on to Norman Billington’s of Heysham who ceased trading shortly before it was set to work.

Some odds and sods.

Here’s ‘Robust’ whilst with Kevin Dennis in Lincolnshire, but still wearing its Canning livery - I think there’s been a grille swap with the Borderer next to it!

Somewhere, I have the photos I took of the sleeper bunk cushions from a Riding sleeper kit I bought from Jim Blezard many years ago - written underneath in large letters was “STF 853M”

Another photo of OTF550M:

The green volvo is David S Smith packaging, (formerly A A Griggs) & was one of a batch of 12 .
Looks like it had possibly passed on to another operator at the time of the photo .

Cheers
