Hi DEAN,
I may be wrong? though the very earliest UK F88’s had the air intake mounted very low down where the cab and chassis meet.I think? the blue SEDDON was an AVON Rubber (BRS) motor, they had quite a few in that shade based at bridgend depot.

J248 HHW New in March 1992 this ERF E12 tractor unit Reg No J248 HHW has been fully restored and saved for preservation in the livery of D & E Beech of Longton Stoke on Trent.
Nice to see its been saved Paul, thanks for the pic.

Evocative picture of the hill climbing six wheeler Atkinson.
Moral? Be kind to your half - shafts and your Mother.David
Yes a cracking pic !

That corner was a bit of a bum clencher with a 70 foot trombone trailer and a ten foot rear overhang!
I imagine that was tight “ROF” with a 70 foot trailer.

For those who don’t know the location the picture below gives you a better perspective of how tight the hairpin turn is for long vehicles at Greenfield Station.
Once you have negotiated the hairpin bend 75 yards just up the hill you then come to this junction!
That would be a nice junction in a pantecnicon with the long wheel base !
windrush:
A now deceased pal of mine use to take his Ford Sierra and 14ft caravan up that hill and then turned left at the junction as he lived on route. I did it a few times solo in my car and it was ‘fun’ when the road was wet! Pete.
Dieseldog66:
The Ermee Guy, no not a factory sleeper, but would like to know the history of it, as it’s a Coventry Reg No
Thanks for clearing that up “Dieseldog66”. Possibly a Jennings ■■
Retired Old ■■■■:
Strewth, I hope he doesn’t have to stop at the junction at the top. It’s a savage pull away with a load on, easy to ‘do’ a half shaft (or worse)
Heart-in-the-mouth jobbie when you’ve got the aforesaid load of steel. Certainly don’t need the foot slipping off the clutch!
Talking about clutch control i was in a car park yesterday waiting for someone and watching the muppets park
there sheds. Never seen nothing like it ,people screaming there engines and slipping the clutch ! I seriously
dont know how they keep there licenses, most of them should not be on the road !

Hi Dean, With regard to the Tossers on the car park yesterday, Many of them that have a full licence have been taught to pass the driving test,
They have not been taught to drive in a safe and sensible manner. I have heard that using a Satnav is to become part of the driving test.
Regards, Ray.

Hi John…I’m sorry to hear that…my father new Jonnie very well back in the day he drove for Griff Fender back in the late 60s early 70s. …as a kid I use ride with him any opportunity school holidays and all that…the old man used to load regular out Christie Tyler’s in Bennett Street back in them days which later became Associated Upholstery. …that’s how I got to know Jonnie as young lad…always a row of Jones and Fenders vans on the loading bays…but very sad to hear that John.

I went once a week to Greenfield at the bottom of the hill delivering glass to a mill on the left hand side , i cant remember the name but it was a left turn and the big mill was also on the left ,i think it had been seperated into units at the time . We had to turn around at the end of the road which was quite tight . Its bugging me now what the place was called

I agree John those little Bedford were great ! They were reliable, cheap to run, cheap on parts and any garage
could work on them if you did have a problem as they were basic.

Must admit i had totally forgotten about the air intake not being on the very early ones, well remembered
Andrew !
They sure did Dean and they were everywhere on the roads back in the day.
Even Jack Regan drove one in an episode of the Sweeney called ‘The Placer’ in 1975.
Thanks for the comments from “Ray Smyth”, “marktaff”,“smallcoal”, “ramone”, “moomooland”.
