PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION (Part 1)

Hi Deanb,
At one time all units came with a spare wheel, Volvo, Iveco, Scania but due to security hauliers said no thanks give me the value off !! hard to do so dealer councills took them off the UK spec.
Also as mobile phones came out there was no need, :unamused: Harvey

Harvey,

I still insist on spares for our new motors. Not on a carrier as in the photo but still insist.

The salesman from where we get the Lorries calls me old fashioned, amongst other words…

Hi dean Some George Taylor pics courtesy of bubble mans page he got a lot on the site

Hi Tubbysboy,
Nothing old fashioned about it, a cheap wheel and tyre direct from the factory melted into the purchase price, makes good sence.
I am the old fashioned one because the higher the invoice value the higher was my commission :unamused: I bet you do a good deal with that one, Ha !!
All the best for the new year. Harvey

Early midlands Brs in blue ,later Western in white , general fleet were mainly Roadtrains and a couple of Scania’s . thank you Dean

Hi dean Some George Taylor pics

Iirc something happend ? And the ERFs got sold off by auction ,then the business carried on with foreign lorries did mr Taylor die perhaps? I know you said John about the loss of premises.

DEANB:
Elliott Bros AEC bulker.

Back in the dusty and rusty depths of my memory, I seem to remember that there was something special about this AEC… It was either the last one registered or the last AEC eight wheeler made…

…or I may be completely wrong!! :open_mouth:

Does anyone know?

George Taylor had a lovely fleet. A proper old fashioned haulier running proper lorries and treating drivers with respect. I believe the ERF’s were the last new lorries he bought. I’m fairly sure that the Volvo’s and Scania’s were all secondhand… It was certainly a damned shame when he packed up, I used to love seeing his fleet around. Thankfully a few survive on the preservation scene…

Happy New Year to you too, smallcoal  And to all who contribute on this thread. The information that springs from just one photo is amazing. Collectively, this is an amazing record of better times and fantastic memories. Long may it continue

Happy New Year to you, Deanb, and to Paul and Mark. This forum would be nothing without you guys, and all your passion and hard work.
Thank you

This is a recent pic ( off tinternet) of an ex George Taylor’s EC, his fleet we’re always kept well

My (second or third hand ) information at the time was that the rising diesel prices and stagnant container rates made the job unsustainable. I believe there was also rumblings from neighbours about nasty smelly lorries accessing the yard because it was down a relatively small urban road. There was a chap (possibly an ex driver) who bought a couple of lorries to do some of the work but he didn’t last very long, for whatever reason. I remember that he had a white Leyland Roadtrain with the interstate cab with Bedminster written on the spoiler. He was based in Taylors yard as well. I have no clue what happened to the yard. I was told that George Taylor owned everything, lock, stock and barrel - no debt, no finance - but I’m probably wrong :open_mouth: I assume the yard is built on now…

Paul,Mark and me would like to wish every one a Happy New Year and all the best for 2018 !

Dean Clevestone were from Hartlepool and at first mainly ran a tipper fleet branching out later with general haulage as from the photos. They were still operational up to a few years ago with skip hire and plant equipment also. Whether still around present day not too sure now.

George Cole’s tractors were based on the outskirts of Shaftesbury and he bought and sold tractors
and combiners etc. He used to have a field full of combiners. I remember him telling me that he
used to ship stuff all over the World, and New Zealand was one of his busiest markets.
