PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION (Part 1)

RBV830V.JPGPandoro Seddon Atkinson 400 Series day cabbed 4x2 tractor unit Reg No RBV 830P was new in March 1976.
When new it featured in some Seddon Atkinson publicity shots, Chris will have all the fine details.

James Lynch Transport are still operating today from their base on what was part of the old Foden works just off Station Road Moss Lane ind Est Sandbach. They run a 40+ fleet of Volvo trucks that must be one of the best kept tanker fleets around.Sadly Peter Lynch passed away 2or3 years ago but the company is still owned and run by the Lynch family along with director Mike Denny.

The 33ft triaxle trailer was really quite popular for a time before the change in C&U regs allowed 32 tons within a sensible (was it outer or inner?) axle spread. Just like mnay moons later some went with thrre axle units like the Mammoth Minor and others who didn’t need the deckspace favoured the triaxle. IIRC this was also the time the widespead tandem became popular as well.

And no mention of the mighty EC15 Cat ?

download/file.php?id=221830&t=1

Roger Mortimore’s Detroit powered Crusader used to come into the test lane at Lenham Storage for MOT each year. All work nearby usually stopped while the air tanks were built up for each axle during its brake test.
The noise inside the building was Vulcanesque.

Millers Recovery bought it before the auction and fitted an extra lifting axle.

1Atkinson Borderer 4X2 tractor unit Reg No MVD 432L Fleet No 21 ‘Couragous’ was powered by a ■■■■■■■ 220 engine in line with a Fuller 610 gearbox and group axle.
Originally registered new to TDG Group ‘Monkland Motors’ of Airdrie on the 1st of May 1973 it was in March 1975 that Tom Riding travelled up to Scotland and bought all ten Atkinson Borderer’s that they had been operating after TDG Ltd decided to close the company down.
After life at Riding’s MVD 432L was sold on to John Killingbeck of Blackburn were Dr John worked his magic transforming it into this 6x2 tractor unit pictured here below.
0 After the rebuild it was called an ‘Atkinson Buccaneer’, the name being chosen by life long Atkinson lorry fan the late Michael Deuchars of Edinburgh who sadly passed away on the 17th of July 2013.

What are the castings on the back of the J Thomas 88 please?

theyre ingot moulds (steel making) , not sure how they were used but the faces used to wear /suffer damage . they were welded and re-machined . I used to do the machining on a planning machine with a milling head attached late 70s early 80s if my memory is correct.

1The Field packaging business was established in 1850 in Bradford under the Firth & Field name.
In 1999 the Field Group was bought out by Chesapeake and in January 2008 the Field name disappeared from the packaging industry altogether after Chesapeake applied its own brand name to all its operations.
0With the Field brand now long gone here is one of Chesapeake’ artic’s today. Harry’s On The Road Truck Photos

Fields were a good firm to work for inside and driving , they paid well part of it is a pile of bricks now , they ran AECs before the ERFs then went on to Mercs

Thank You.
