The Seddon looks like ex Bulwark to me, Buzzer.
The E.C. Charlesworth F88 on page 80 was operated by Chris Charlesworth one of Lindleys former drivers who Iâve said previously were carrying for PDM with both their own and PDMâs trailers. He looks to be pulling trailer 30 which would originally have been an open topper with a sheet across the front to be rolled out when loaded We had (I think, its a long time ago) T31 and T49 at Bury, the latter being a bit longer and having a narrow opening along the top like the one on page 30 though unlike that one, T49 had a chassis and tipping gear and a sheet which hung down the side when being loaded and the folded over the opening when loaded and tied shut along its length. They also tried sliding lids one over/under the other, load one end, move the lids then load the other and close up, but crap got in the slides and were damaged by the loading shovel. I remember on one they were that stiff it took both me and Chris to open/close the lids on one of these, I was on the catwalk side and he was holding the handle and moving along with his footing just on the lengthways ribbing along the trailer. I know we are a bit more safety conscious now but even then I thought that was a bit iffy. The fold over lids on T30 secured with over-centre catches were a good idea, the red marks on the trailer were so the shovel driver dropped the offal in and not on the trailer. I donât know what happened to Lindleys, I left PDM at the end of 1975 and went back as a driver late in 1978.There was no yard lad then and drivers had to load themselves though I occasionally jumped in the same but by now tired and neglected, Volvo loading shovel I had used and looked after a few years previously and threw some on whoever had turned up, either from Doncaster or the local regular carrier who were Dewsbury Haulage from Bury. Chris also had a F10/12, I last saw him in washing out in Widnes around the time I was made redundant, which would have been July 1982, he was busy and so was I so didnât get chance to say hello for the first time in a long time. Itâs amazing how these pictures jog your memory.

3In May 1998 Cuprinol was sold to ICI Paints.
In September 2000, ICI announced that the Cuprinol site at Frome was to close within a year with all production transferred to Slough.

1They ran a tidy fleet of draw-bar trailers over the years and changed their livery to green in 1989.
Another good article and photos Paul ! That was a bad week for Frome residents, the loss of 200 jobs at one company and then in the same week Cuprinol announcing that they were probably going to shut the factory ! They did the following year with the loss of a further 200 plus jobs !
The green colour scheme looked so much better than the earlier one.

Hi dean port talbot works covers 500 acres if you type in bsc port talbot on google images it shows you the works cheers JohnThanks John, big old place !
Hi all,
I wouldnât know its size in acres, though imo itâs a hell of a lot more than 500! Probably nearer 5,000! I was told by a former plant boss at work several years ago that itâs around 6 miles long by 2.5 miles wide.
Regards Andrew.
That does not surprise me that its 6 miles long ! I always remember as a kid seeing it from the motorway
thinking when is this factory gonna end !

The Seddon looks like ex Bulwark to me, Buzzer.
Thereâs an article in the latest edition of the CVRTCâs newsletter about Bulwark and they bought a few Seddon 30/4 tractor units with the Rolls Royce Eagle engine, but found this engine option to be heavy on fuel usage and had high maintenance costs. Further Seddon 30/4 orders were for Gardner 6LXB 180 engines versions, including one order for 40 of them to beat the 6bhp / ton legislation.
