Past Present and in Between in Pictures (Part 2)

Good question. It looks as if it’s been turned to face aft (shiny chrome showing to front and support this side of lamp), but it’s positioned too far along the cab to be a catwalk lamp. I reckon it’s there to illuminate the trailer deck during night time loading.

Could be clogs for the “Big Friendly Giant” :grinning:

Yes, that’ll be what the load is - I’d forgotten that the BFG lived in Ouazarzate behind the film studios but why does he need so many!

Good answer.
If the Benz had decent mirrors the lights could have been mounted in top of them. Handy for so many uses; walk around checks, wheel changes, on the move load checks, hooking up.

Giants are like women - they can never have enough shoes (or bags for that matter) :grinning:

Few older trucks at a dealer on the old rd between Le-H and Bx, near Bernay 27.
Seen when I was there a few weeks back.

Some giants actually ARE women. They’re not allowed on planes in America and have to be craned off cruise ships. That’s what I heard, anyway…

Some you lot will recognise, others probably not, some I don’t know.

I love the way they put a second hand sign in the screen of that Saviem, as if we might otherwise think it was new. :joy:

I remember Pitter wagons on the road, where they general haulage?

Pitters a very long established general haulier now no longer in the transport game that part has packed up, in years gone bye I have worked for them pulling fruit out of the docks, they still have an agency selling Ford commercial vehicles at West End, Southampton Buzzer

As Buzzer says they were into general haulage, with lots of fruit work, and also had trucks in container company liveries; Van Ommeron for NYK was it?
The family were also into coaches as Coliseum Coaches, which I believe is now sold to Luckett’s.

Yes. I think Pitter ran in a number of liveries - all part of the service. It was a common practice in Holland. Van Ommeron was a Dutch outfit. Perhaps Pitter (another Dutch name BTW) was originally Dutch or had connections there.
