I think they were assembled in Doncaster

Also Popular in Turkey as rigid Tonkas

Hi “tyneside” I remember Charltons running them IIRC Their yard was on the left heading up towards Sherriff Hill. Owen Pugh & Arthur White had then as well at that time, They were supposed to be good off road performers, Regards Larry.

I can vouch for that Larry my Dad drove one at Pughs (and me when no one was looking!) It was a nice little motor and done the job no problem, I used to help service it on Saturday mornings Pugh was big on his drivers doing that, later on I would work on the same engines fitted to Seddon 200’s. Here’s a couple of Pugh IH’s below not sure who is driving them though and unfortunately I can’t recall Dads Reg No. Franky.

Two questions for this interesting little thread----- Would I be right in thinking I have seen some of theses IH’s with Perkins 354 engines fitted. And were they as good as those Normal control Traders that were about at the time on the same kind of work. Cheers Bewick.

As Oily says, it is (was) an International Harvester. Bradley of Accrington and Weston-super-Mare used to operate a fair sized fleet many years ago, used to see them up and down the M6/M5 regularly in the 70s. Lightweight lorries and not very fast, as I recall.

Steve

That’s right - apparently, Jack Bradley had a lot of them in his 100-strong fleet. Nominally 20T gross, and fitted with Perkins 6.354 engines.

I heard many a tale of them from the late Peter Davsion, and here is one of his photos taken, if I remember rightly, on the Hollies:

I always thought that those IH Loadstars and them Macks of P & S Contracts gave the impression that they were “The Dogs” at that time but they really were all " noise, wind and pish" and couldn’t pull your “skin” back        Cheers Bewick.

That’s what I meant by ‘lightweight lorries and not very fast’, Dennis.

Hi great photos of one of Mr Pugh’s Internationals, both on the Tyne Bridge I think.
Was there an International agent or dealer somewhere on Tyneside ■■? I can’t remember ever seeing one.

Cheers Tyneside

Defo the Tyne Bridge Regards Larry.

Hi Dennis, your eloquent comment describing the P&S Macks sums them up entirely just as out late mutual friend RWB voiced a similar opinion. Do you remember my account of our encounter with one on the A1 at the Clock Cafe, Scotch Corner back in 1963. Take a look back at this link re my original posting in 2012.
Cheers, Leyland 600
