Ex London Transport RT!

Yes Stevo’s bought a lot and sold some on

Hi ROF being a Bristol a Gardner 5HLW would be a good guess but the answer is definitly not a Gardner, a 4 cylinder is a clue.
Cheers Leyland 600.

Now why didn’t I think of that? Must be slipping!
Having teased us, I hope Leyland600 will put us out of our misery? As a former apprentice spanner-thrower for the company, I only came across 5LWs and 5HLWs at our depot.

Buses not Trucks, but they did look and sound great at yesterday’s Vintage Running Day out of Penzance Bus Station

Seeing that ex LT RT reminds me that some of them are literally falling to bits underneath that nice shiny paintwork.

Well there’s a turn up,a little Albion 4cyl in a bus, what gearbox would have been installed ? Cheers Bewick.

Hi Bewick, just checked the engine details which was the EN250H not the 286 as stated, David Brown 5speed syncromesh box with 5th as overdrive, Kirkstall front axle and BMC rear axle and diff. Very economical little buses ideal for country routes.
You asked how many motors Stampers of Dearham ran, speaking to Harry T’s nephew Ken this evening (he inherited that twin steer Leyland after Harry) ■■■■ ran 12 to 15 wagons comprising AEC Albion Atkinson, ERF, and Leyland mostly six and eight wheelers on livestock and BOCM animal feeds from Manchester and Selby. He tells me that he visited his aunt Annie who is 82 today.
Cheers Leyland 600

Here are some photos taken near Paarl, in the Western Cape of South Africa in March this year.

Well thanks for the info, 600, it really was a mixed bag, that one! I was relief driver on an LAD-cabbed Chieftain in the mid 60s. It was a super little lorry to drive, but when I went to bed every night I still had that four pot thumping in my ears. Mind you, it wouldn’t have been so bad for that bus driver- he was sitting about twenty feet from the noise.

Hi ROF I have driven lots of buses and coaches during my transport career but mostly Leylands with 0/600 or 0/680 engines plus a good few Gardner and Leyland powered Bristols plus an odd AEC or two which were always bearable and enjoyable to drive. I drove a new LAD cabbed Clydesdale with a 400 engine in 1962 on livestock, long hours, long journeys but no regulations worth mentioning to worry about.Young, keen and some might say daft !!
Cheers, Leyland 600.
