You don’t see bull bars much any more, only on older trucks. It seemed a big thing during the 70’s and 80’s. Not much in the way of wandering stock or large wild animals here, you’d be unlucky to hit an animal of any size on the roads. They do help though when you want to line up stary pommie rugby fans though…
They give the ERF’s and Foden’s a very different look to uk based one’s though,a unique Kiwi feel,I think they look great.

Yes, I agree, they do look good Jamie, but they must add considerably to the tare weight I would have thought. In Oz they weren’t just cosmetic, they were there for a purpose, kangaroo collisions are a serious affair. Serious, even disabling damage to wagons and there have even been deaths of people in cars.
I remember that when I worked for Tony Tyler at A. & H. Transport in Long Eaton in the early 80s there was an owner driver who parked his F10 in one of the sheds. He did Spain regularly and had bars exactly like the one on that ERF B-double and I often wondered how much it bit into his payload. Never saw a trailer and no idea what he carried, maybe weight wasn’t a vital factor.
Incidentally, Tony had a contract bringing in bulk salt from Winsford for bagging and distribution to local authority sites, schools and old peoples’ homes etc… It was in that same shed that we tipped the salt and bagged it. I wonder what that did to the F10’s bodywork

Yes, you can’t be sure the elastic band will snap and they’ll lie down nice and still as they pass underneath.
Seeing the service pumps, price of diesel■■?, probably the gallon price would have equalled what a litre price is today.
