A proper BMC before Issigonis drove the firm onto the rocks.
But 690 was only 2.6 not the later 3 litre in the A99/6110.
6110/Westminster 3 litre with Healey head, big valves and hot cam and triple carbs was the default choice of the âoppositionâ and all were loved by the trade in the 60âs.But unfortunately fell into the hands of the banger racers later after Jags became more in demand for the around extra 20 mph top end.
While the big 6 cylinder BMC survivors are rightly still well liked and in demand in the classic market.

What a totally inane comment, clearly demonstrating your absolute lack of knowledge and understanding.
Issigonis was justifiably lauded as a talented engineer, brilliant designer and forward thinking innovator.
Alex held senior technical positions at Austin, Morris, Alvis, BMC and BL. He never held a position with fiscal responsibility.
I suppose in your fantasy world, you could have done a better job.

Letâs just say that the law went on to buy numerous 6 and even 8 cylinder rwd options as pursuit vehicles from Jaguar, Rover, Triumph, Ford and Opel and BMW for a reason.
IE better than the 4 cylinder front drive garbage that Issigonis lumbered BMC with.
Now awaits you saying that The Sweeney TV producers should have starred the 1100 and Allegro instead of Granada to chase the blaggersâ Jags.
Suggest you read the correct comments on the vid I didnât write them.

Sorry Carryfast but I have to agree with SDN. Would you care to explain further in what way you think Issigonis was responsible?

For every high speed, pursuit car the law bought, they would have aquired 5~10 ordinary, affordable cars. Austin, Morris, BMC and BLâs core businesses were mass produced, affordable cars, not luxury or high performance vehicles.
To keep the thread on track, hereâs a picture of one of Digâs unhappy passengers.

It was the very efficient Ford sales team that made sure all the âgoodiesâ on the Sweeny had Granadas, something like the present day âproduct placementâ operations in films. Which is why all the âbaddiesâ cars were Jaguars.

Exactly David, Ford were on a mission. They also supplied cars for The Professionals.
