A few odds from the NE Tyneside

Buzzer3rd photo: I imagine the tyres are painted. But why? Any ideas?
Yes. It’s an Ossett address on the Bedford, the nearby village (Gawthorpe, 1 mile away) hosts the annual GB Coal Carrying championship and the Gawthorpe May Pole. A big parade of vehicles, swings, roundabouts etc etc. makes for a very jolly summers day. (The ex miners usually drink the village dry). I suspect the Bedford took part in the aforementioned parade.

An unusual one here nmp0

These two Scania’s sit in the grass in Massachusetts USA. I talked to the guy who owns them about buying the 112 to have as a hobby truck but he said no he was going to put it back on the road. Last time I saw it was 7 or 8 years ago and it was still sitting in the same place.
I have owned both the Victor and the Cresta, both nice cars but the Cresta with the 2.2 engine and column change was the bees knee’s,lovely motor to drive.

I had a dark green 4-speed manual 3.3 litre Viscount. A fabulous car with so much torque.
Note how few are of European origin.

Pic 1 I wonder if the little lads are the sons mentioned on the Bedford?

I stand corrected Dipster, the engine size was 3.3 not 2.2 as I stated.

The 3.3 Cresta PB and later the Ventora were also both well liked by the trade and customers in the day.
I preferred both to the Ford Zodiac.
The manual Rover P6 3500S was a game changer in terms of upgrading the good old school 6 cylinder Brit types.
Bearing in mind that they all could easily be fitted with their respective parent American V8’s and often were.

I think that the Allan Samm Commer was the one that my dad drove, all Allan’s lorries had radios fitted back then and the only request was that all drivers switched them off coming out of Ampthill to listen for any strange noise coming from the lorries. They used to be based on the Steppingly Road out of Flitwick right by what is now the Redbourn School.

There were also some of these types of conversions in the day they were sought after then let alone now.

I always fancied a Rover P5 coupe with a Chevy V8!

The Speedwell badge on its own would fetch around £800 & the pair of rear lights another £300 quite easily.
Just checked that PB Cresta is taxed, tested & showing it has a 5.7 litre engine still in place.
