2Took this shot yesterday when shopping at my usual local supermarket. Looks rather healthy for its age.

1It bears a 1960 Wolverhampton registration, but is LHD.

0Would it have been improted specially from the Continent (new or second-hand), or were they supplied new like that?

I suspect it was imported from the US. Those bumpers were US spec I believe. Probably worth quite a reasonable sum! But not much fun to drive…

Thanks. Imported in 1960? Wasn’t it available new at price list at that time in the UK?

I guess imported much more recently when they became cultish, thus why I suspect it being of some value. VWs were not that popular in the UK in the 60’s and 70’s.

On nights 1967/68 did quite a few VW loads. Load of Rootes from Cowley yard to Becton Marsh pound then Dartford tunnel to Manston Airfield where VWs which had come through Ramsgate Dock were stored, load and back to Cowley, following night VWs to Bridgewater vans on top via Cheltenham Gloucester A38 to Bridgewater(no low bridges) Back empty Devizes Swindon. The vans were for Devon Camper Conversions at Axminster. The other memory I have of import VeeDubs in the '60s was that they were all over wax coated for protection. The Beetle was minimalistic, simple and solid, doors shut easier with a window down that’s how tight everything about them was.

The work station for many of you, mine for 3days then back onto my Akky, took a while to get over it :unamused:

A sad day indeed RIP your majesty

HM Queen Elizabeth, a truly shining example of dedication and public service. I was surprised just how upset by this afternoon.

Agree completely.

Though I do not have a single drop of British blood, I always had great respect for Elizabeth, who was already Queen when I was born in 1955. Many people in France will miss her!

Apparently the lights sur la tour Eiffel were turned off as a mark of respect. Quite remarkable.

Having spent many wonderful years in France I have never understood the French nation’s fascination with the British royal family. That too is quite remarkable.

Kind words and sentiments. I was always treated extremely well by the French in the years I spent there and believe he spoke for the majority of French people.

I wonder if Truss could address the French in French to the same standard as President Macron’s English.

'Cos the Fiat motor fits in easily and very nicely.

The B series was a factory fit in other BMC types using the Minor’s base structure.

Phillip came to me today,
and said it was time to go.
I looked at him and smiled,
as i whispered that “I know”
I then turned and looked behind me,
and seen I was asleep.
All my Family were around me,
and I could hear them weep.
I gently touched each shoulder,
with Phillip by my side.
Then I turned away and walked,
with My Angel guide.
Phillip held my hand,
as he lead the way,
to a world where King’s and Queens,
are Monarch’s every day.
I was given a crown to wear
or a Halo known by some.
The difference is up here,
they are worn by everyone.
I felt a sense of peace,
my reign had seen its end.
70 years I had served my Country,
as the peoples friend.
Thank you for the years,
for all your time and love.
Now I am one of two again,
in our Palace up above.

This is a very moving article regarding Queen Elizabeth.

She loved being North of the border in Bonnie Scotland.

But the B series was an old engine, bearing crank for years and a head that did not breath well having siamesed inlet ports. Compare that to the Fiat.

Oops, I omitted the 3 before bearing…

I wonder how long it took to get all those Cortina’s going in the cold. My first wife’s family had one and I used to keep it in top condition, but most others I knew of were a bugger to start as soon as it cooled down.

Great pic’s though and thanks for posting.

I’ve seen this little gem a couple of times lately, but until today I couldn’t get a shot of it.
It’s a local reg. (South Shields), this was taken today on the promenade at Seaburn so it hasn’t travelled far. Regards Kev.0

What a cute camper. I hope it has disc brakes added and a Fiat twin cam engine and box fitted, both popular mods to give the old Moggie a bit more stop and go!

Why when an MGB 1.8 or a Rover V8 will fit.

Because neither of those options are an improvement. A Datsun 1200 with box was a good and simple conversion. The little Datsun engine responded well to upgrades.

Star down under.:

Not enough similar Datsuns sold in the UK to make this an option.
