That well-worn KM has an AEC (or Leyland?) fuel tank. I think it looks smaller than the original would have been. Why change?
A nice period yard scene:

Maybe one the other side as well.
A 1955 pic of a Glasgow Corporation electric dustcart. Judging by the reg no this must have been built in the late 20’s/early 30’s.

Bin men at that time sure earned their money, it was hard graft, todays bin men wheel the bins to the lorry and press a button.

Geraint, Economic Drums a blast from the past, used to deliver there many moons ago.
I have a ten gallon drum that I had from there that I use as a bin in my garage.

Buzzer’s transporter photo took me back to Dover 1964ish and loading these Fiat 500s a pain in the rse to start, if I remember rightly the choke was a small pull lever between the front seats, the knack of correct amount I didn’t ever master. The two loads I did from Dover were for a dealer in Newcastle whose name I can’t rmember but was right by St James Park football ground.
OilyWas it Lyle’s ■■?
Tyneside
Hi Tyneside really can’t remember I used to think it was a name like Irvine or similar. The digs we used were in Bewick St so there must have been a lorry parking area nearby, also there was a British Legion Club near to the digs.
Cheers

Another pic of the electric refuse vehicle in Glasgow. Discovered from another site that they were bought in 1928 and ran until 1963. Known affectionately as the “Ghost Trains”
Does anyone remember these hand drawn electric dust carts?
Hi Dennis I remember the hand drawn electric dustcarts in Edinburgh I think they were in service until the mid 70s cheers Ray

From memory I think they were the preserve of the road sweepers rather than the bin collectors. Judging by the state of our streets nowadays we could do with them being brought back. The amount of litter is disgusting.
Another Glasgow bin wagon, this time from the 70’s
One more, last of the evening. This one looks a lot more modern than first one I posted. I wonder if that’s why people remembered them lasting into the 60’s as I couldn’t see how they could have had lasted 35 years!!

I wonder when that Blyth card dates from, I remember in the days when I used digs that BB and D could be had for 10 bob, so that must have been sometime later. Too close to home for me to park up at but I am sure I have been in there, but wasn’t there another cafe not far away just off the A1?
Evening meal, bed, breakfast all for 16 and 9 pence!

Hi Spardo, Can you remember how much you were given for night out money back then? Thanks Dave.
