Hi Dan , The chap with his elbow leaning on the trailer is my Grandad Smiles, Mind you I had a few rides in the good old Traction Engine when I lived on the Great North Road at Seaton Burn when I was a boy, It was replaced with this Scammell in 1942, when I was seven, I still remember the smell of the Traction Engines fire and steam, In fact i have a Mammod model steamer that I often fire up , Take care, Regards Larry.
Thanks to pyewacket947v, Buzzer, Lawrence Dunbar, coomsey, ERF-NGC-European, Froggy55, Ray Smyth and Punchy Dan for the pics and all the craic and info

A long bonnet Seddon in this 1954 Advert.
sandway:
A Punchards lorry involved in an incident earlier in a service area.
I had to fetch this lorry back from CMG at Newport Pagnell.
The driver of the Scania artic had apparently suffered a heart attack at the wheel & was taken away in an ambulance, no one was hurt as Tim, the Punchardβs driver was in the services at the time.
A BMC FG Series newspaper van of the transport section of W.H.Smith & Son.
It is on Trade Plates and looks brand new, probably on delivery to Smiths.
Not my picture.
Where I worked on leaving school in the 60βs we did any major repairs on the Reading based W.H Smith fleet. Operated as WHS Transport they had their own fitter for general servicing etc, mostly the early 1 ton LD vans with roller shutter rear doors and a small drop down taildoor like the FG in the pic. They also had either a brass or bronze βTβ handle alongside the drivers seat (no passenger seat fitted of course) which acted directly onto the starter solenoid through a linkage to by pass the key and get a quick getaway.
Hi Buzzer The AEC Marshal of Jack Henleys appears to be in front of the Oast Houses on the familyβs Spelmonden Estate farm where I went to view the ERF LAG 16001 (64GU) four wheeler which was for sale in 2005 resulting in buying it and restoring in my own livery.
