Suedehead:
01Couple of Spanish Dodges. Had a bit of a rep as flying machines back in the day. Were they really “all that”?

Gawd yes, i had a 14 litre ■■■■■■■ E320 at the time which pulled like hell and overgeared to suit, only the big cabbed Spanish Dodges and the then new 142 Scanias on the same work (similar weights and work) would give it a run for its money.
There were some green cabbed Spanish Dodge artic tippers running out of St Neots area (company name eludes me worsening memory ) that often used to run about the same time early morn up the M6 heading to Spillers Milling at Birkenhead, wacky races some mornings…so i’m told.
My memory’s almost as bad as yours! The name will probably come to me eventually but weren’t they from Sandy, Bedfordshire?

Morris & Jones were a large wholesale food supplier dating back to 1878.
Sometime, onward from the 1950s/1960s, the company was renamed MOJO.
In later days, the company became part of Booker Cash & Carry.
This line of Bedford lorries is in South John Street, Liverpool early, 1950s.

Morris & Jones were either owners or part of the Mace group of supermarkets.
In the late 60’s I had a few holiday jobs with J. Ironfield & Sons of Clayton le Moors, Accrington. One of the jobs was to get a lift into Liverpool with one of their drivers and find my way to M&J’s warehouse on Wood St/Fleet St to help unload chests of tea. The loads of tea chests were collected from various wharves and warehouse in London, the round trip was 3 or 4 days. It was normally Wednesday when I did this and it was b****y hard work, no gloves, manhandling tea chests onto a constantly moving lift with little headroom at the start of unloading!
A half-hour trip in the streets of Leipzig (Germany) filmed from the cab of a tramway; good quality colour pictures. An interesting document on city traffic of that time, with all kinds of petrol, horse, or man-powered vehicles. Anything but boring! youtube.com/watch?v=CETIdLkJM4k
