Was the Ribble bus station stands opposite, all those years ago i seem to remember ? thank you Trevor
Trevor, This street is called Standishgate, and in days gone by, was the main road through the centre of Wigan, A49.
The Brakes DAF lorry is facing south, to the rear of the shop buildings on the left is " The Galleries ", a shopping
centre built 1989, on what was the Market Hall, large carpark, and the Ribble bus station and Ribble office on Hope Street.

Hello Ray
I think Trevor may be thinking of when the Wigan Corporation buses used to be at the top of Standishgate. I haven’t got a photo, but I do have this interesting painting, complete with the policeman on point duty.

A Leyland Martian recovery truck.
On stand by duty during roadworks.
Lets hope it was not called on to do anything
too arduous as it would have probably have needed
rescuing its self…
Hi Green Devil, Yes, the Market Place in the centre of Wigan was the domain
of Wigan Corporation buses. This is the exact location of your picture above,
taken about 1970. The bus on the right is a Leyland PD3 with bodywork by
Massey Bros at Pemberton, just 2 miles away. The BMC FG van with coachbuilt
bodywork belonged to Wigan Corporation Transport, and is parked at the front
of their town centre office. Picture from Wigan World Forum.

Leyland Sherpa van, Hillman avenger, looks like the back end of a Bedford cf and a Triumph 2000 shooting brake.

Ref.the artic with the boats on,it was an Ex US Army Dodge. It was RHD, had a straight six cylinder side valve, petrol engine, and a booster gear lever which seemed like a very early version of a splitter. On private ground,(I was still at school),I drove one just after the War.Regards,900X20.
I know it’s donkeys years old, but my father drove one for Pettifors, a small firm in south London. It had a Perkins diesel in it and I was the ki Gas operator I too drove one at the Royal Docks in London at the grand old age of about 10. A long wheel base unit for English lorries at the time.
Anyone looking for an easy restoration, this 1965 ERF 20ft flat with 5 pot Gardener is on EBAY for £3600 so not over expensive IMO as it looks a complete motor, Buzzer.

Hello both ,and yes it would have been Hope street as the Ribble booking office was opposite the bus stands .
Years ago would catch a corporation bus out to Abram, think it could have been the number 12 that went through Platt bridge ,thank you Trevor
Thanks to servo88, Punchy Dan, Lawrence Dunbar, Ray Smyth, Green Devil, pyewacket947v and Buzzer for the pics

Got to drive a New Sherpa on occasions when they first appeared, labelled Austin or Morris then in the 70s
Big improvement on what had gone before,(J2, J250,J4 ) though the bracket holding the exhaust tail pipe had a tendency to break…

Stood looking abandoned off the main road.
It looks like a Scammell Mountaineer, but to be
honest i am not entirely sure…
And I once thought that Bonsall was the last place God made, and then in 1989 we visited John O Groats! All downhill from there Dan, very little fuel burned on the way back.
