Pallet buyers round the uk

LOL … I used to make 4 - 600 quid a week in the 90’s, sometimes getting rid of a full box van, those were the days. I was so well off I would sometimes go home on a friday afternoon, sit in the pub and say “Come on guys, lets go to France for the weekend, my treat” and off we would go, money no option.
I miss pallet yards

I used to pick up empties from the small companies on my Oxford run, then drop them off at a place on the A420 about 5 miles or so from Swindon.
It was a quid a pallet back then. On one occasion, I managed to tip 168 pallets there, after offering to clear someones yard in Wallingford. Would often get £200 a week. Boss didn’t mind me grabbing empties on my round, as long as I left room for collections.

There is a place down Tavistock street in Dunstable that buys Pallets …

Hiya…there was one yard near the A500 in Stoke. a local firm was delivering products to argos.
everthing was put onto argos pallets hence 24 pallets empty. well in my day we thought IF WE’D
done the handball the pallets was a little bonus for us…not so there was a clamp down and many
drivers got caught for not discloseing money paid to them and not taxed on. the company said
they turned a blind eye to this happening and was happy, that statement got them in trouble.
the only way out was to sack the drivers. yes about 10 of them. there had been a gang tax men
staking out the yard from across the way. This was maybe 15 years ago but did corse a big stink
at the time.

There’s no ‘H’ in Towcester

One of my favourite yards was at the junction of the M4 and A34, ‘Henry’s’. I would deliver to a well known RDC in Swindon, a typical load was 24 pallets, we would pay the pallet fork lift guy in Swindon a tenner and he would fill our trailers with empties, we would then go to Henry and he would take the lot off then put 24 broken ones back on, he kept a couple of old bangers with for sale signs on. One morning I was in there about 8.00am and he noticed a police car with two cops watching us, he just did as normal and I drove out, about 5 miles up the road the police pulled me over “Just a routine check driver, can I ask if you just sold any pallets back there ?”
“No officer, I went to look at that Ford Capri he had for sale”
“How many empty pallets should you have on the trailer ?”
“24, here’s the pallet reciept officer” I showed him the paperwork.
“Can we look in the trailer then ?”
“By all means” we walked to the rear and I opened the roller door to reveal 24 pallets at the front, he was speachless

My own record for one load was 650 quid in one go, a full trailer load at the pallet yard on the isle of dogs
