Brilliant pictures…there’s a man who sells decals of the P&S livery in 1:50…I’m tempted to see if I can get a Corgi Mack B on the cheap and do a repaint, especially after seeing colour pics!
Just noticed another anomaly as well, the only one in those pics with a full Aussie type bull bar is the left ■■■■■■, but all the right hookers were reputedly imported from Oz. Presumably the left ■■■■■■ is a US import or ex US forces.
Talking of Corgi Macks, As a lorry mad kid i had most of the 60s & 70s Corgi models & I’m sure i had a Mack with a yellow cab/red chassis, it came with a tandem flat, with I think, 2x20’ boxes on the back. The other Corgi models of the time were liveried up, eg Ferrymasters Scammell & tilt, so the Mack may have been based on the P&S ones?
focale:
Malcolm bought there wrecker from Newbridge when it closed, but also had a 6x4 aerodyne type model on plant work driven by Geordie Shields, the demolition company that used them was owned by Woolfries, think it was called WJD demolition. I. H. Brown had a few on continental work from Perth.Popeye of Penrith was that by any chance John Hodson ! When West of Scotland had the dealership I had a test drive that was enough, and was happy too get back in my scania, I worked for Tommy McMillan at loganswell, newton mearns, wagons were similar to malcolms colours , although the colour scheme came from, the old Alexandria transport at Dumbuck
Currie European also also had a Mack

heres a site for you, another mack fan
Nice restauration and the video brings back some memories, but what is the point of perching that 5th wheel behind the bogie?
i thought that?but thats how the rd mack was in the film?axle weights?
if so,must be a joy to drive loaded…bounce nod bounce!
I think the Convoy Mack was set up like that to match the truck and trailer for the film so it looked better [longer] and then filmed so it wasn’t so obvious how far back the fifth wheel was.
The P&S Mack looks brilliant. Hope to see it at the shows next year. Great job.
does fifth wheel look better from here ? even if I messed up wi run up ramps !
They were’nt on about your fifth wheel PAWS, its the Rubber Duck Mack one in the link from whoosh whoosh.
Alot of US trucks have the 5th wheel set right back like that, in California it’s to keep as bigger spread as pos for the weights, but some just think it looks cool to have a huge gap between the truck and trailer. In California they have draw bars with a 30’ pole between.
You’ve done a superb restoration there Paws credit where credits due!
Just a personal observation and dont take it the wrong way, but P&S,s B Type Macks did’nt have sun visors on them, I used to work with one of their old drivers a few years ago and he told me loads of stories about the Macks and he had a few pictures as well, I can’t remember many 50’ and early 60’s Wagons that had external sun visors, I dont think they got popular until the 70’s onwards.
It would be interesting to know what others think

Don’t think so because I remember thinking what a high spec truck with all the extras. It also had a cigarette lighter.
Hi Paws.
WOW!!!, what a beauty, having been a mack enthusiast for many years I think the B model is the best looking truck ever, but not having driven one in anger I might not feel quite as enthusiastic towards them if I had worked 16 or 18 hours a day on one, though I’m sure no one could deny their place as a legend of a truck. Congratulations mate on a fine job indeed, I can’t wait to see it in the shows, i’ll be all over it like a rash.
