P.J.Butler&sons ltd,Leyland Marathons in Europe

Fantastic vwvanman!
I’m well chuffed with seeing this advert,i knew Butler’s had been in an add but forgot what for.I’ll show my dad it on Saturday when i get back from work,i know OHA 700M wasn;t my dads, his was a p reg.
As for that Marathon in the"New European’s" film,i think they were just Leyland test vehicle’s and Butler’s definately had the first Marathon sold as he bought it from the Motor Show at Earls Court,it was a race between them and W.J Daniel’s transport from Brierley Hill and Butler’s won.
Thank you again for the trouble you went to find this add,i appreciate it.

Hiya Jase, i remember ur Dad, Keith, my Dad worked for Butlers for yrs with ur Dad, his name was Kenny Cook, bk to what u said about Butlers having the first Marathon, Male and son in Brierley Hill had a L reg, dunno how they did it, Billy Hughes had OHA 700M and it’s maiden voyage if u like was to France, and it came bk with a load of Champagne, yrs lata my mate Steve Fereday drove the same truck, he is no longer with us, in fact most of em have gone now, even Butlers folded last yr, but r now trading as PJB Transport, the green and red of their heyday is fading out, and now they r mainly blue, looks as tho we got diesel in our veins as well then, more expensive than blood eh

Glad that helped, he certainly was a character, my Dad used to call him Ian Botham, amongst other things, all in jest tho, if u look at the pics Jase put up, the ones where the 2 lorries r in France, he is standing between the two

Thanks for that pic BD, looking at it it’s pretty much when Butlers started doing that run, it looks like George Smith, or my uncle Viv Roberts who sadly passed away while on that run, he died of a massive heart attack at Buxton on 07 02 86, RIP Viv

dont know if your interested jase but theres a pic of a butler marathon on ebay at the moment item number 170260666779

Found this Sed/Atk pic, hope it is of interest.

Cheers Marc.

Ah,the Strato ,what a truck!!
My old mans was F259 CEA and he loved it,only problem he had with it was it used to go through front cab mounting bushes every few month’s till they fitted them with grease ■■■■■■■.
Loads of room in it but when it was delivered it never came as it was ordered,i’e top bunk missing,so it had to be fitted before delivery.
Shame they sold them to S Jones to go on the Norfolk line contract, before i think they were 12 months old.
