Well then lads, here is a similar question, but from the other end, i regularly drive wide loads, and whilst tesco etc are ■■■■■■■ about at 48 mph on the motorway, i have a crane and deadline to meet, so, sometimes, i have a long wide load, i have to overtake these head up there arse slackers, so then you have a wide load, in lanes two and three, cos i have a slow moving obstruction in lane one.Comments on the legality of this pls…!

As a potential “2-lane taking-up” wide load, (presumably above 7.5t MGW) it is normally an offence to be in the outer lane of a 3+ lane motorway whilst overtaking a slower vehicle so you can only hope they get out de way or you have to put up with it, Surely a “convoi exceptionnel” has to be a bit more professional than even the usual professional driver and be patient in these situations due to the potentially hazardous and expensive nature of the load.

yes thats the correct way of looking at it, however, i get bored following drivers who hold me up, when i have my beacons on, headlights on, and stay in my way for hours on end, so now i just wait for a clear gap and blast past them., you might also say that the proffesional tesco etc drivers might pull off at a suitable place toallow me to pass, but thats not happeened in the last twenty years…lol. Also i only travel at 50 with a wide load, so as to allow other trucks to get past and clear me easily, so how slow are they going if they hold me up
I got overtook off 2 wide loads that were moving maybe some kind of log cabin or something, they were massive, but I was flat out at 51mph and they sailed past taking lanes 2 and 3, but they were past in about 10 seconds, so no harm done in my opinion.
Had there been a hard shoulder, I might’ve drifted over onto it to help, but alas, it was a ‘live lane’ for the next junction and BMW’s were going up my inside at a high rate of knots too.

+1 if needs must
Mine or usually light and I aint sitting behind 2 x 44 tonners having a 44 v 44.1mph drag race up windy hill
i do wide loads all the time and if some one is passing me i will move over so my loads on the white line between lane 1 and 2 to give them room but find its better if im passing trucks rather than them passing me and getting the cab past and then moving back to the white line!!! but even when your passing them half of them dont notice you till your load is at the side of the cab, shame they dont use there mirrors
