Cheers Eric,
Ferdys been working on that for a few years now, he’s also been in Turkey a few times doing some ground work. I would assume with all the contacts he has he would be on top of all the paper work,I hope it all works out well for him.
As you have probably seen on the Trucks of Australia and Tasmania thread there are plenty era type trucks still available here and I’ve looked into doing something similar my self a while back. However as Robert says there are a load of new regulations now about running older and right hand drive trucks through some of those countries. I was told that if the vehicle is regesterd as a motor caravan or for private use then some of the regulations don’t apply.
If they opened up Burma or China was made more accessable I’d buy my mates series 1 Globetrotter, convert a 40 foot box van into a camper, and have a year or two of.
Jeff…

Hey, Jeff! I’ve just been ferreting about in that parallel universe, the Photo Forum on TNUK. Have you seen an old thread called Truck Photos from Central Asia (by Richardjw1)? Right up your street, and lots of really good pictures. You’ll need to go back to page 5 of the forum to find it (not difficult). Robert

Hi Robert I just had a look at that and left a post. It was all a bit farther West than I was but interesting none the less. I remember some of the Turkish and the Iranian trucks. I think, HELIN in now part of TUNA. I’ll never forget the endless lines of red local trucks most with their 16 meter tilts, they were using the smae kind of car transproters that they use in the Gulf countries as well. Anything up to 8 cars on each deck.
Yes Dan I also had another look at your thread as well I still love that fishing thing.
Did any one see the photo set of the Irish guys getting all the hiab trucks out of the harbour. Some one sent it to me as and email a few years ago but now I can’t seem to find it…
Jeff
I’ve deleted the link because it opened up my account but if you go to youtube and search ‘Irish cranes falling in harbour’. It will put you right on it.
There y’go Jeff.
Was it a set up or did realy happen ? The first time I saw it, I thought it looked a bit sus…

If it was a set up it had a Hollywood budget -one car 2 late model mobile cranes. Not a youtube job.
Earlier on on this thread I posted a shot I took at the China border.
I know this is a pretty rubbish shot, it was taken with my Russian copy point and shoot, and is the only other photo that came out on the roll I shot on my to China. This section always made me look twice, for days previous to this bit we bumped across badly made dirt tracks that crossed Kaz north to south and other former eastern Russian states. Then for a very short section between Bishkek and Almaty it all looked very European, and someone had actually put road markings as well as correction arrows on the road.
Photo taken from the left hand side of my Italian reg series 1 FH16 520 driving through a 16 speed Volvo gear box, pulling either a Smitz fridge or Cardi tilt, both of which would have been 13.7 meters long and tri axles. ( hope that helps Robert )
Jeff…
Ferdie has sent some good pics of his vintage Middle-East run, to Biglorryblog… Robert
Here’s a pic of a tidy 111 I had for a while, YBD 100S. Did a few trips in it to Doha, I ran into a breeze block wall built to separate the traffic coming into Damascus, schoolboy error. (it wasn’t there on the way down). Limped home with it without too much trouble, until stopped by the police on the A12 going to Scantrucks in Stowmarket…
All the best Mick
So near but yet so far.
Your don’t look like your very tall, how did you manage to reach the peddels? lol…
Jeff…
I know, the doors were very heavy too, needed both hands to open it thats why I left my milk shake on the battery box… lol
On the way up ftom Patras, have they built a new bridge over here yet? I didn’t go to Greece much, backloads involved the whole day in a field loading melons, then a long trip home pursued by the biggest wasp swarm you have ever seen!!!
We all have a photo of that in our collection.
Those Melon Jobs were fun, I liked them as you got to see a bit of the real off the beaten track Greece.
And the drink you got for sitting all day on the Hornsea Rd while every bubble from miles around came to buy their melons was always a nice touch
Greek Mellons… Hu… never again… Nuf said.
They were so slow loading it, took most of the day, I missed the ferry and had to sit an extra day and a half for the next one.
The floor was so sticky after that I never neaded to strap anything down ever again.
I’d rather do skins…
AND they did a full strip out at Dover customs… “Thanks for being so understanding driver”
Jeff…
Here’s some photos of my FH that I was on for Trans Mondo, I would have posted them earlier but I got a new computer and the scanner and printer were obviously up set at the deal as they decided not to talk to it.
Sorry about the photo quality as I was still using my old Russian point and shoot.
I washed it before collections or deliveries.
Jeff…
