Over the water in the 90's EC and beyond

Nice photos, sadly even there roads are a lot more congested than that nowadays, still in the same state of disrepair though.

Found this floating about in cyberspace. It looks like Dover in the early '90s. There are some familiar liveries I just can’t remember the names of, but the ones I can recognise include: a Westermans MAN, a Curries of Dumfries Scania 3 and another one with a DAF 95 on it, a Thompson Jarrett(?) Merc SK, a Brit European, a DAF 2800 with stepframe tilt, a Norby drawbar Renault, a Young Bros of Dargate trailer, 2 White Trux trailers with a SA401 unit next to them, and a Beresfords of Stoke DAF 95. Are those yellow ones together Pekais from Poland? Strain your eyes and memories to fill in the gaps. Robert

you dont see dover this quiet very often nowadays…

You missed the UFO Scania and I remember the 2 Scanias sitting the left of the Curries DAf… I’m thinking Britannia form Hull or ACH?? but perhaps not…Defiantly a line of Peaks Volvo and Turbo Stars…
2 Currie Scanias behind the UFO
Jeff…

The wagon n drag next to UFO is one of McKellar’s, next to that is Solstor (could be me, I was on there early 90s) there’s a Wm Mark Young, a Noel Zwecker, Murfitts with a Euro trotter, ACH, a few Thompson Jewitts, an old orange and white Merc that can only be Prince, an Eric Vick over in the corner, one of Norman Lewis, a Carna Scania 3rd row far right. A Lagan in the same row, JSL maybe? next to the Dangerousangle Renault. The Foden next to the Curries possibly that Weisel? That did Austria. MacBurnie with the white tilt, red back doors facing the other way. As well as Poland’s finest (and they were in those days) there’s a lot of Yugos in there and maybe a couple of CSAD.

That’s pretty good going chaps - Happy New Year! Robert

The Daf w+d opp the Young bros trailer, looks like one of Interdeans(removals)
Also a John Raymond trailer bottom left of pic.
The yellow Foden could be one of Bromilows.

There is a W.M.(Mark) Young from Uttoxeter in there as well, we used to work along side them on the Bosnia war thingy for JSL (Janerite) of Stoke until ESL bought them out just to get in with the MOD then that was the end of a good job, we took every thing out there and a good eight years we had, cheers Buzzer.

The MOD had loaded the wrong trailer at Bicester, sat for nearly 2 hours before I was ‘allowed’ to pull this trailer. Not a problem with JSL, we just took it. If I’d had a pound for every ‘has Stobart bought Youngy out aswell’ comment, I could’ve bought Youngy lol. I told 1 chap that Youngy had bought Stobart International out. He didn’t believe me!

cant see th robbing theif of tug driver in that photo… ■■■■■■■■ charged me 20 quid for a ■■■■■■ when me old DAF 2800 starter motor had packed up…

He got me started and then demanded 20… In my defence I was only 22 and I did ask him…but didn’t expect quite such thievery… Can’t price experience ■■ Lessons start at 20 quid !!!

Anyone remember Phillip Gregory from Matlock nr Derby ,he always ran iveco v8s normally blue and quite rotten too ,he did have a blue tilt with his name ,he would often go past our house on a Sunday morning heading for Dover with all sorts of loads on from McCormick tractors sticking up to McDonald s cartons to Moscow ,if you’ve ever seen his lorry you’ll know who I mean .

The White seddon Atkinson 401 unit that’s parked next to the White trux trailer is one of browns transport , if the pic was taken in the early 90s then it would have either been mine or my oldmans ,
Browns only had the 2 4x2 units that had alloys fitted to them .

Put the curser on the image hold your finger on the Ctrl switch ( bottom left ) and roll the wheel on the mouse at the same time … One way makes it smaller the other makes it bigger…
My son showed me that he was 8 at the time ( of course I knew that all along, I just didn’t want to embarrassed him )

There’s a CTR and MAT tilt sitting on their own.

Jeff…

great thread! don’t wander around here too much but it’s great to see some of the places I’ve been 10+ years later  and the roads haven’t improved much

Jelliot:
Rynart Trading ( the ones with peacock green and red graphics ) were quite a common site but must of them were Polish subbies, and I was told ( not confirmed ) that most of them were Muslim as well.

I know many guys who used to work for rynart and they are all estonians. deffo not muslim though, if the amount of vodka we’ve burned through is to be considered  even some Rynart trucks were registered in Estonia, some had dual plates (estonian when needed, dutch when needed). here’s one registered in Estonia, not my pic though

now manned by turks etc, it’s not only the westerners who don’t get to travel south-east anymore

Got parked up with this one in Spain in 1999 on my way down to Morocco. Eastern European driver - good bloke. Note the road-train Jost coupling on the back of his trailer for doubling up in Russia! Robert
