Operating a british truck from Eastern Europe

Surely, as good as they are, they would have a bit of sartorial elegance about them :bulb:

Genius! I may not be the greatest driver in the word but at least I dont own a tracksuit!

They may be more fashionable than we think :open_mouth:

They were the first with Lidl bags and now look at the range

Hi all. This has got me a bit worried now.I own a pair of track suit bottoms.Does this mean that in the far distant past some of my ancestors migrated to the uk from the nether regions of Eastern Europe.Mike

As long as they are washed more than once every 6 months and not worn with equally “grey” white socks and flip flops you’re safe

Ok.we all despair of the shabby image many of the Eastern European drivers portray. But we could never say that about the older generation of Turkish International drivers.Always we used to see them at a border dressed in a 3piece suit[ok it looked like an old demob suit] and leather briefcase[from the bazaar]but by god they tried.Always gentlemen with a sort of ‘‘old fashioned colonial’’ type of elegance reminiscent of the old ‘‘Ottoman Empire’’.I really loved those guys.Mike

Brings back memories. And your description is spot on. I used to marvel at the 70’s style flared collars. And as you say complete gentlemen they were. My father always told me if I was in a far off place and not sure of myself , park with a Turk and ask for chai. That in itself was enough to get the old boys running around and being friendly. Great people.

When I was doing work that involved clearing customs (even then I noticed I had the only western truck) everyone seemed to wear a black three quarter length leather jacket and a grim expression…

To orys , I was brought up in the gorbals. Nothing wrong with here. If Poland’s better then why not take yourself back there.

What does annoy me is when they pretend not to speak or understand any English, but for some odd reason they are fluent when the threat of calling the police or Vosa is on the cards, this post is not intended for Orys,as he knows i can speak French,Spanish, and Portuguese.

Just read ORYS tales about the effect of eastern block transport 7years driving 34 for me and I can assure him the massive influx of them has destroyed a very large portion of local based uk hauliers how do I now ? I worked for one for many years out of Scotland where I live all my life. For us 1load out 1load back then danzas arrived ok until the borders opened then slow but sure then polish supermarket drivers arrived 2 for the price of one the it was downhill ever since. My old boss and friend lost the lot directly because of the pricing of Eastern European company’s who’s trucks where paid partly with European grants from Brussels in effect indirectly we were subsidising the very people that were cutting our own throats. Now me like many of us are working for less.a direct result of a labour government flooding the uk with cheap migrant labour depressing wages .0 and ORYS polish are hard workers are they never met one it must be you only ? As for the driving skills ■■■■ me ask any motorway cop

Could you tell me a bit more about those subsidies, I have heard a lot about them but never seen actual figures, how many and how much $ have companies received from the EU? Maybe you can share a legit website with those figures?

As for the driving skills im not a ■■■■■■ but if they are so bad over in Eastern Europe, then why did I pass my class 2 and 1 here over in UK both first time, one with 3 minors other with 2, but you get quite a few people even on this site who manage to fail their tests several times so how does that work out in your theory?

As for the rest, yes we maybe killed your international haulage, but to be honest I cant care less, its business at the end of the day. If you cant make money in haulage, move on, get another qualification there is no way that the prices will go up to the level they once were and thats a fact, there are many other factors that have also had big influence to the transport industry.

I paid €100k for my scania, no subsidy to be found, €1700 month in and month out.

The Army HGV training is done by a civilian company, But it is very basic compared to ours.
Most of the officers don’t even get in a lorry, They are simply signed off and given a licence. They are not expected to use it, They just need it, Otherwise how can they order someone to do something that they arn’t licenced to do themselves.
In times of war, The instruction is even more basic. You may be in a carda of 30 men, and only 5 will get to drive.
It was an instructor that told me this.

:grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

I just LOVE it. All these times you were telling crap about that in Poland they give you licences without even touching the truck, and suddendly it turns out that the fact is true, except that it happens in your country, not in mine…

I’m not going to join in any argument about which nationality can drive trucks, I’ve met good and bad from all over the place.

But really Ory’s using Limeyphil as a reliable source of information, you’ll be quoting from Tony Blair’s document on weapons of Mass destruction next. ?

It’s never gonna be an easy discussion this one and only time will demonstrate the truth.

I wonder in 10 years time though, how vocal Polish, Bulgarian and Romanian drivers will be when the next contestants of the EC game enter the equation and pop to there neighbours to work cheaper given their lower social costings at home ■■

I wonder if the Turkish Orys will blinkeredly defend his countrymen with gigabytes of selective quoting

I’ve worked all over the world and to the likes of Riho & milodon, I say on a personal level, fair play to you for bettering yourselves. But my friends the greedy parasites in Brussels will soon shaft your home countries too and then perhaps you may begin to understand the feelings and prejudices of others ■■.

Me ■■ I couldn’t give a [zb] either way but rest assured I will most definatley be LMFAO at it all

I’ve already seen bulgarians and ukrainians driving estonian trucks (in the uk most notably parme trans pulling for RH, no holder of an estonian passport to be found there), doesn’t bother me one bit. A driver is not considered to be a part of the skilled workforce anymore, if they can get the lorry from a to b much cheaper but with a level of quality the client will accept, I can make better use of my time somewhere else.

Well the thing is there are ukrainians, belarussians and russians already working for Latvian companies, but it is only a matter of time when the salaries level out in their own countries and they wont come to work to Latvia.

Thanks to the EU it is nearly impossible nowadays to buy farming land, because all of it has been bought by foreign investors, large companies, so basically we are left with ■■■■ all, so you will have to cope with us

Milodon, what about Estonia, are they also actively chopping down forests in Estonia to fill the budget or it isnt as bad as in Latvia?

Really…Are you sure?

Yes, I’m sure, cos I’m Eastern European myself and this why I did leave my home and become a driver in the UK. Cos I wannabe a DRIVER, instead a slave… Someties I can hear terrible stories from Hungarian drivers about their employment an work conditions… :frowning:

Thought this new European Union was to make us all equal. All its done is driven down rates and wages and put east european death traps on the road. The quote ’ the good old days ’ has never been truer…
