It’s not just the pay to consider but the terms & conditions, nor is it only the compnies who are struggling. You can now buy a T shirt with a ‘Professional Struggler’ logo because a lot of the time that is what the job is.
Conditions extends to the actual state of the workshop etc, is it adequately lit when tall vehicles are inside? do you actually have room to work around the vehicle or are you always in someone else’s way? Is it well equipped to deal with the jobs required or is the attitude struggle without, but you must still meet target times? are vehicles steamed off if filthy, or is it get on with it and wipe the dirt off on your clothes? are there shower facilites so you can actually go home clean? Do you clean things in a bucket of paraffin on the floor, or put them in the parts washer? are you left alone to get on with it or is it hurry up every 15minutes? What the job is really like soon gets around so there are many reasons why the job may not appeal.
