Older drivers

Only on Trucknet can a thread start about old drivers to Dippers ginger cat having a ■■■■■■ examination using wax candles to stimulating the perinuem.
Can anyone explain why Dippers cat looks petrified ?

I am glad you brought this up actually Animal. Why the hell should I work hard to pay for a winter fuel allowance for the older mob?

Stick another one of your dodgy cardigans on FFS. :unamused:

Sorry but I am not old enough to get winter fuel allowance

Oh & I don’t have any cardigans thank for that but sure you can buy me a couple

Wasn’t directed at you personally Animal

I just think that a lot of the older drivers would be happier at an anti fracking meeting or neighbourhood watch.

Anti fracking ? Not me, I can`t get enough of it. Wot? Half past two I said.

Know it wasn’t but a lot of us older drivers do have commitments as well & as they are putting up the age of retirement it not going to happen

But you kids are just too young to remember when we did have it good back in the day of the 80’s / 90’s   but now having to pay for the crash

I have to endure old drivers war stories so I often wonder do old time pilots bore the new generation with tales of flying somewhere in a clapped out 707, or how the Trident was a better night flyer than an A330?
We get the “missed the Herald” stories do pilots tell fables about how they just missed flying the Kegworth plane?

I personally would like to thank all the youngsters on here who have clubbed together to give me my winter fuel allowance. I don’t feel embarrassed about getting it. I’m 66 next month, £45+ wages, £19K navy pension and my old age pension. Job is clean and easy. Why would I want to sit around home all day vegitating when I can afford to enjoy myself?

I think the medical needs to be tightened up. I do look at drivers of all ages and wonder if they’re fit enough to do the job. I don’t believe in telling anyone they can’t do the job, unless it’s on medical grounds. But that’s aimed at anyone with a licence, not just certain ages

OP should have been drowned at birth.

 There really are some blunt tools on here. Going into mental combat totally unarmed :bulb:

speaking from the older perspective , I was nagged into seeing the doctor at 62 years old . He stopped me in my tracks there and then , heart disease requiring operations and lifelong medication . I had no idea , just put it down to too many ■■■■ and fry ups . If I had kept going , how long before l killed someone or just popped me clogs , I wouldn’t have seen another birthday . I do agree that the medical for over 60s needs to be drastically overhauled , not just for "they could kill someone " but also for someone who has worked hard and won’t live to see retirement . Dave

I`ll argue Brexit with anyone, and have maybe too often, but I doubt even stalwarts like CF could get Brexit involved in this thread.

Anyone on here drive one or a Honda Jazz?

Yep, me and the wife. and I’m 63…and I have been driving trucks for 42 years this year…and to date I have never had a serious accident, bumped the odd bumper now and again but who has not. There are good and bad in all ages, I have seen a few youngsters who seem very clued up and aware. I have also seen plenty of lads my age who cant back on a bay to save their lives.
There is a place for all ages in the industry, dont write us off yet !

My cardiologist tells me that he thinks previous heart problem HGV drivers are monitored to the point where they are a safer bet!

I have a medical every two years for my HGV, I also have a full exam at Harefield heart hospital once a year as part of my ongoing cardiac care. Every six months I have blood checks for raised cholesterol and diabetes tests. I think ALL drivers should have periodic health checks…young and old.

Yes but that’s only any good if you’ve already had a problem. Bit like changing a tyre when it’s under 1mm, rather than do it when the tread has hit 2mm

Sensible and well put post 29088.

But never mind all that, it’s Sat night and the REAL question is this;

If you insist on wearing a hat with a feather, why do you have to proudly display it on your parcel shelf?

And do all Honda Jazz’s come with that fish symbol? :open_mouth:

And yes, a very sensible response to young and old, screwdrivers in both ranks!
The advantage with the older drivers is there is lots you can learn from em, as long as you don’t get a boring miserable old codger…
No names! :grimacing:
