Noticed in the library today a book called ‘On the move’- all about transport in Northants with plenty of excellent pics , Abbotts ,Spriggs , Wrefords , Butty’s , Rogers , Whitworths , BRS , Wilkinsons ,Clarks , Eales , Patricks & United carriers featured
There are three volumes of the ‘On The Move In Northamptonshire’ books Boris.
They were only printed in limited numbers, but do contain some really good road haulage photos.
Having said that, I think they must have run short of material in some of them - even someones Chopper bike, mopeds and ordinary cars appear on some pages.

Graham, those pictures look great, what a wonderful company it was.
Although Butts are still going, 2 contract liveries no longer seen
A couple of the Freers vehicles
Think Grooms were from Northants (may still be running with plain white vehicles)
Again Carrs of Chelveston are still going, but no longer in the classy ABR livery
Again Bletsoe-Browns still going, but I’ve posted this one as it’s an ex Weetabix vehicle. The FL6 4 & 6 wheel rigids were some of the best looking vehicles around…

No problem Truckerash thought you were going to post some pics on here as wellRight then: I know I said i was gonna put some pics up…but I’ve been a tadge busy of late with my book
Anyway, here are “a few” pics of local compaines to get you all going. I was brought up in Northampton and spent almost every spare day going round the area taking photos. Dad used to drive me to start with, then as soon as I was 17 and passed my car test, BINGO! I was off on my own.
Someone mentioned Billows earlier in the thread
EMRogers got me started on proper trucking!
The Scammell used to do scrap swarf from British Timken, Duston to Sheffield, then load lime back to Totternhoe every day. Every night it used to take a Gelders (laterTNT) tilt to Felixstowe and return a trailer every single night! What a motor!
With Tony “wink” Cockerill in Rome
Mick “big ben” Bennett used to sub for Howe - ACH - and Rogers. Ben now sadly passed away. Great bloke. God bless him.
Still going strong. S W Wreford
W Wright & Sons (Roy Bros) ran a haulage co and hire co from Cogenhoe. Any one from Wellingboro’ remember EURO CONTINENTAL? Wrights DAF on contract hire
What a blast from the past I drove that N6 volvo on the low loader or one like it with billows livery there were three of them muck shifting to build the Milton Keynes shopping center I worked for a couple who ran an agency in Kingsway Wellingborough
Great pics wardg- did you ever get any of ■■■■’s Texas homecare FL7’s?
& weren’t the booker FL’s painted yellow sometime?
No thats all I ever got I’m afraid. Called in LFE services after visiting Pyebridge for Hills Heavy Haulage auction and managed to catch those.
Linfood was the Yellow livery, not sure if booker took them over?

Hi Curnock , thanks mate - but i have seen it…a few times! as it was put on the BRS thread a couple of years ago by my mate ( who’s in the film ) as he ‘aquired’ the original video tape & uploaded it onto youtube , can’t believe it’s 25 years ago though
