Hi Kevmac47, Will be attending the TT run when it reaches Bents Park at South Shields but the other half wishes to come along as well. One snag here in that she is in a wheelchair do i just park on the sea front using the Blue Badge and push her across or is there any facility inside the park (unlike Harry Long Retired who has a powered bath chair this one takes a bit of muscle).

regards

Mick.

Its ok Mick I,ll be there. I,ll fetch a rope and we,ll pull her behind us then you can buy the beers

Is the word powered or powdered  ?

Was that his getaway vehicle when he was a bank robber?

When you look back to the 70’s and 80’s and think of all the places we used to load out of that are no longer in business it makes you wonder how there’s any loads for anybody these days. When I was at Smith and Dixons we loaded out of Domtar Paper Mill at Hendon, Liner Mixers on the Felling, Durham Chemicals in Birtley, Dawson’s rope works in Hendon, these places kept about 15 of us going all week. At Clark’s Haulage it was Coles Cranes, Sunderland Shipbuilders, Chas Taylors foundry in Shields, Fabricon in South Hylton and containers off the Baco Liner which used to come into Sunderland docks every month. Van Hee got regular traffic from Swaddlers Nappies, Northumberland Fine Foods and Armstrongs on Team Valley as well as Dunlop. Fergusons had Blyth sewn up tight with the paper and timber off the docks.Other names from the past where there were plenty of loads include Head Wrightsons, George Clark NEM, Huwood, MEP, Plesseys, plus the various steelworks and steel stockholders. Nowadays it seems to be bogrolls, foodstuffs and parcels.

I know exactly what you mean Bri. Theres 2 of us from the docks parked at Selby Forks loaded with crap because we have to take anything these days to pay for juice. Tomorrow i have to drop this trailer in seaham and load pallet timber at timbermade for Huntingdon lots of ropes and straps but its all to get me to boston for the nissan coils. 2 years ago i would have just run down empty but now even the docks own transport is fighting for survival ps idont know how to get rid of the red lines under some of the words,i,ll ask my grandson when i get home.

The red line under a word normally means that the computer thinks you have spelt a word wrong depends how it is set up & what computer you are using I know how mine works but a bit pointless telling you as it might be set up differently or a totally different type of puter

Sorry cant be more helpful

This F12 was painted at South moor ,Stanley.

This was freds’ second Volvo unit, previously he had an F10. The F10 was spray painted by a coachworks in Ashington, IIRC, a tin of white paint was left inside the cab, and someone tilted cab, making interior half white / half brown. :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Another 1953 Petrol SB Pantechnicon. This one has bodywork by Spurlings, and was built like a battleship. Spurlings had exhibited a 1948 Bedford O type 5 tonner at Commercial Motorshow, Unfortunatly I seem to have mislaid this photo. Our Final 1953 SB was fitted with a pantechnicon body by Marsdens of Wrrington. This was the first of many, many Mardens we had. At one period of about 15 years we always had at least one at Marsdens being constructed

W.H.Williams Spennymoor Green Lane Depot arial photo mid seventies. At this time construction was still underway with Extra workshop with vehicle stores Link to existing warehouse, vehicle wash, Bodyshop, drivers rest room and toilet block not yet built. Also parking was extended to perimiter fence.

W.H.Williams Spennymoor. The First family to move into the Newly Created Newton Aycliffe. The Photo was taken by and published in 'Picture Post@ the Helloe magazine of its day. The van was a 1948 Bedford OB. For some strange reason my dad had a standard Bedford Cab fitted to the passanger Chassis by Sherwood & Wynn of Hurworth near Darlington, the bodybuilding side of Sherwoods who had supplied the chassis. It was then driven to Youngs of Sunderland who were useless bodybuilders to build the body. (They were half the price of Sherwood and Wynns). Sherwoods would have built, if asked a much smarter pantechnicon with an integral cab. When it was about three years old it virtually fell to pieces and Sherwoods repaired and strengthened the body and repainted it. It looked really smart and was a big van for its day. My dad then shortly afterwards sold it. Several times I asked him and he nevr could remember why. The stange thing is that in 1959 he then bould a 1949 OB with a Sherwoods Integral body from Sawrey Gill of Durham. That van ran for almost two years and was never painted except for plain cream undercoat. It was then replaced in 1961 by our first Bedford Diesel Marsden SB
