The small yard is still open & just a short walk form where I live have seen some of there trucks about also the “sprinter” size that they have
Think they had some 3 series Franky but mostly Dafs as i remember 2300s or 2500s may have had a couple of Fl`s
Macs are still going at Albion st Felling just up the bank from the Ship pub about 10 minutes walk
from where I live now on Grange Road, the site on Green Lane was the workshop and storage
area for the bricks.I think you must be right “Greek” we must Know each other, I will try and get to
the next gathering that Bumper mentioned so we could have a chinwag then.

Crawford of Washington are still about but Ray left a few years back as he sold it
Ace of Portabello is still there they still have flats
Frankydobo:
McGoverns yard opposite the Fire Service Workshops on Nest Rd Felling where I work has recently packed up and it now has odd trailers and a few caravans parked in there, don’t know what the score is with that but we thought McGoverns might have packed in but I later noticed the small yard was still open, although I haven’t seen his motors for a while, especially any artics. I liked the McGovern livery and built a model SA 401 a while back but never got round to doing a brick trailer yet, totally ficticious as I don’t even know if they ran the 401, maybe the 3-11 but somebody might know. Franky.
Congrats franky, that model is so lifelike! Mc Governs never ran a 401 as far as I know but they did run a 301 which John Codling
drove. I seem to remember he hated it with a passion.

Crawfords are still about but not as big as they were ( like a lot )
I see Francis quite a bit as well
Cheers Kev really is a nice kit to put together, must get the trailer done too. Not sure about Crawfords, I’ve got a Brother in law worked for them, they took CPS over, I think, a while back, had some of the motors anyway. There is a yard beside the new Washington Fire Station with some traffic parked in, must see what’s on the doors but I think the cabs were mostly white (what isn’t these days) unless someone on here knows. Here’s a pic of two Van Hee 113’s I came across when sorting through old Truck mags yesterday, a short article explained how they had changed the signwriting to a typical for the times logo, bring back proper traditional signwriting eh, not that Van Hee had it anyway just huge yellow letters, lost count of the times people thought I’d said Van Hire when tipping or loading around the country! Cheers Franky.
Dad did work for Crawfords a long time ago ( remember when they were at Parson & Crowther ) and my father in law worked for them more recently ( now on for Canute ) did work with a driver ( 3yr ago ) who worked for them as far as I remember Denis bought Ray Crawford out

CPS did a lot of work for Century Aluminium at Birtley, now being done by George Allinson I believe. Did Allinsons take CPS over or did they get the work after CPS went kaput?
Ithink that Chinky is thinking of Barkers of Birtley, used to run red and white Iveco 190-30s, dunno where their yard was tho’. There used to be a Transport Services based in Station Road, Birtley at the back end of the 70s, ran dark green DAF 3300s. I remember them working during the haulage strike in 1979 which didn’t go down very well.
Hi KevMac47,
Knew you at Waugh’s in the late 70’s when i was the tyre fitter passed my class 1 and got a start at CRS at Prudhoe after that spent the next 14years at Steetley Brick at Throckley running with you all and staying at Normans hope you are well and should see you at the gathering down at Howdon at the end of October.
Can anyone remember the infamous Mr crossman , he ran RAC freight from station lane Birtley among others , mainly doing continental i believe , my old man did a couple of trips to Greece for him , must have been around 94 ’ . The wagon he had was a yellow Renault R385 (or maybe 365) beast of a thing , they did a lot for the freight forwarder velos.
A couple of Gallachers John Scotts 144 the one he got after the Parnabys Scania Ian Gallacher had it before it was sold by the famous TAL.
Here`s Scotty with his old moter the one before above these where chimney sections for the new power station at Sutton Bridge. Good at his job John but not in Transport anymore (I heard?)
