It was Theo James from Bedlington. Still going, has a lot of artic tippers usually MAN and Mercs. I think has a lot of the bulk work off Blyth Dock.

It’s niggling away in the back of my memory that the phone number on Gowland’s wagon was the number for Van Hee at one stage (were they at the bottom of Beacon Lough bank in those days)?

They were certainly at the bottom of Beacon Lough until sometime in the early seventies

IIRC Smith & Van Hee were based at Wallsend & their motors were red. Gowlands were IIRC Taken over by Van Hee when they were brown & yellow, I cant remember the year But Gowlands had a blue 8 wheeler Atki, a lad called Maurice drove when Van Hee took them over,Regards Larry.
